Hey all, this morning we were woken up by a goose screaming, being attacked by a raccoon! We killed the raccoon, however she has been bitten a couple of times on the body underneath the wing.
First thing we did was remedy her shock by giving her warm water with sugar, salt and baking soda.
Next we cleaned the wound, first instinct was to dab rubbing alcohol on it. We realized that was wrong and soon thereafter rinsed the wound with saline. We didn't shave any feathers off because we weren't sure which feathers we can safely trim without causing harm if there were blood-filled quills.
She is limping and in pain, but able to get up to eat and drink. There are a couple of puncture wounds on her.
We went to tractor supply and bought blue kote, and sprayed that on. We also bought Polymyxin B Sulfate Ointment, havent put it on yet. It's an antibiotic ointment.
I have antibiotic pills, but I need help knowing how much to give her. She is a young African goose, maybe around 5-7 lbs? I don't have a scale. Photo attached to see her size. The pills are 800 MG SMX-TMP DS (DS meaning double strength).
Please let me know how much I should give her, and I will administer it right away. Thanks y'all.
