We are new to having geese. Right now they are in a section of the outside chicken run. They are messy-as far as water goes!!! I try and add fresh hay every night but they get everything all wet so I am having to change it daily. What do you do for bedding? Is there something else I should be doing for them??
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!! Thanks:)

Hi Bad Wolf. What geese do you have?
What floor does your chicken run have? On grass, or on a wooden floor? Best thing for geese is have them on grass. Then they splash about all they like and the water just goes into the ground. They don´t need hay if they´re on grass. You just need to clean it up regularly to keep it nice. I do that here.
Some people who have geese on a floor put down shavings. some use flooring that can be hosed down.
As far as a run on grass goes, the bigger the better, with a kiddie pool for them to splash about in. Hope this helps a bit.

Hi livininbrazil! We have 2 Chinese geese and 4 embden.
The run is dirt bra cause the chickens scratched and ate all the grass. We open it in the morning so they can go outside in the yard, so they only sleep in that area but they stay up and play around in the little pool and soak the ground. I hate thinking they are laying down on wet dirt all night. Maybe they don't mind it??? Thank you for the suggestions!! Are you really in Brazil? I wish I were:)

Yes, we have geese in Brazil! Both are great. :)
If your birds are out in the yard all day, why not just let them have water in the yard? They don´t need it during the night. If they have the choice, of course, they´ll mess about with it, as geese don´t really sleep like chickens do, they keep alert all night, and sometimes wander about and stuff, but they really don´t NEED the water at night. Why not just take it out? Then the hay you put in won´t get so wet. Or, you can just leave them on dirt, but of course you need to clean up the poop regularly. Oh, they won´t mind sitting on wet dirt. They´re quite at home with it. But if it bothers you, just leave the water out. And, of course, if they don´t have access to water, then no food in there either. Or, just put in a very small hanging pot that they can put their heads in but no more. They´ll still manage to make a mess, but not so much. :)
