Because now I have SIX. I took two of them and put them in the fridge as they had nothing yet. But we saw one of the babies moving around. I have to put them back, just don't have it in us to destroy them. But I still am not sure WHO they belong to but I do know who is sitting on them. And I have NEVER seen my male mate with the young female. What a strange thing to find in the middle of summer. I thought breeding season was over LOL. I was told they are Crested Chinese. They have a bump at the beginning of their beak. We are "newbies" as I like to call us. LOL So, you are not a smarty pants

. Thank you for helping us. I say the more the better. Because the Goose and Chicken lover is just getting her feet wet. I have lots to learn and I need people who are willing to teach me. I just Love Backyard Chickens.
Fred is in the front (what might be my young female), then Lucy, and last is Ricky. I thought Lucy and Ricky were a mating pair but it seems maybe Ricky is having an affair with Fred. LOL
Thanks.
I would Love to see your Geese
I will keep everyone posted on the progress of these eggs.
Is there anything I need to do or just let them take care of it all???
What a sweet looking trio, Hoping for some goslings for ya'll

A complicated story but after incubating 2 Embden goslings I was given all a few weeks apart 8 more. One of them has just developed angel wing and I have found out its most likely due to a to high a protein diet. I haven't had any problems with the others. However I have never weighed what I have given to them to eat, they are all free range on our farm during the day so they can graze, then in an old stable at night with chick crumbs and growers pellets and also mixed corn. I have brought them up on chick crumbs and have only just introduced growers pellets. The mixed corn is for the oldest of my geese they are least 3 months older then the rest, but the young ones have access to it. Any suggestions on feeding? I am new to all this and am not sure if I should be rationing food or doing it in ratio with the goslings? Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would not like any more of them to develop angel wing. And although I have researched angel wing and apparently binding the wing? Is best? Any more suggestions would be great. Thank you Viccy

Hi All

Just wondering roughly how long after seeing mating behaviour I might see some eggs? Both of my drakes have been busy with their females but so far there havent been any eggs. Will the geese wait until the weather starts to warm up or am I likely to see eggs before the end of winter?

Chick crumbs or any chicken feed isnt good for geese and goslings. It doesnt contain what they need. Flock raiser or waterfowl feed is best. Also add some brewers yeast(NOT baking yeast)
1 cup per 5 lbs of feed. Also corn isnt good for them either it causes fat to gather around the reproductive organs.
Binding the wing is best. Vet wrap bandages work great but do not wrap the wing too tight or it will cut off circulation. A goose with one wing is not a happy goose.

I just came home to my very first goose egg! So happy I just had to share.I must say - I am very surprised by the size of it. I was excpeting them to be bigger than chicken eggs but it is massive!
