GOOSE BREEDING THREAD - for breeding, incubating, hatching and rearing.

If you just sit and watch geese, you´ll find that they don´t cuddle, (except for when they´re tiny and need heat), and if they do touch, it´s just a little poke. Most of the time a goose will move away from another goose that wants to 'touch' it, because it´s going to get poked. just watch....but they don´t mind poking you!

Out of all my geese, there´s just one female that will actually come for a stroke. A lot of the others will come around and let me just touch their chest, then move off. Or...gather around behind me and pick and poke....

So true mine will come up to chew on me but petting them they aren't fond of. I can still touch my 2 goslings but they aren't that crazy about it anymore either. I noticed Sammy will poke very gently at the 2 goslings it's so sweet almost like a love tap. No love taps for me though

Mine are funny that way as well. Sting and Lydia will walk along with me and chatter up a storm while Pauline walks behind me and grabs at my pants cuffs the same way that a couple of my dogs do. They will come up when I sit in their pen with them and rub their cheeks against my pant leg but they will not let me pet them. They will let me hold them by the back of the neck and pick them up and hold them in my lap for just a few seconds but then off they go...I guess complaining about getting too much affection.

Stuck up things. Now the mafia has taken up position out side of the duck/chickens coop so when any broody's come out they can immediately start to intimidate them. Ruffians all 4 of them. I don't mind them giving these broodys a hard time since I am not letting them have eggs this year, but sometimes they want to get too rough. Then I have to go out and be referee.

Does Pauline just tug at your cuffs for affection? Because that would be sweet. Mine will occasionally grab at my shorts legs and completely pants me. I'm so glad I'm rural enough that no one can see into my yard. The pantsing is bad enough, when I trip on them it just adds insult.

Please, please tell me you stop and pull a black and white striped shirt off the hook by the door and put it on first.

And if you do, maybe if you paint one of the mafia zebra striped they'll take to the position?

I'm kind of jealous of the gentle, people chews. But I really, really enjoy watching the sweet "nosings" that my adult geese do to the babies. It's so touching.

She definitely is doing it in an affectionate way. I will take a step and she will grab my pant leg. Next step, next pant leg. And so it goes. At least so far I have managed to keep my cloths on which is a good thing since a US highway runs alongside our property.

I get the chew fest every evening. They have gotten really close to me and talk to me right in my face. It's really cute. Even the real stand offish older goose is standing closer and closer. When the geese are done, one of my hens has to nibble on everything they nibbled on to make sure she's not missing some good treats, LOL

Geese can be so comical... My goodness you might want to wear pants that do not pull off by your goose! The one thing is geese love to chat with you when you bend down and talk with them. They will join in with each other talking with you. But just do not like to be touched. They will act like you are killing them when you pick them up but will settle down and sit there for a few.
I just love geese!!!

Hey now RURU, when I'm working in the yard I'm wearing elastic-waist pants not belts or suspenders. I don't dress up for my birds. But I just looked at your profile (and I mean no disrespect whatsoever) You seem to have a rather refined operation. Mine is less so. Your pics are amazing. Nice yard. Really nice. You also seem to cuddle your geese - which is great! I prefer mine to tolerate me but be more wild and serve as guardians.

I respect your method, I'm a bit insulted you don't respect mine. But perhaps you didn't mean it that way.

And, to be clear, I love my geese. Quite a lot.

I think I raise mine (since my yard is different than yours) in a different way and encourage a certain degree of aggressiveness. And don't get me wrong, I love my geese.

I did not mean it as you took it I meant maybe the elastic could be a bit tighter so the geese did not pull your pants down so easy. Just was making a funny. I too wear elastic waist pants too. Sorry you took it that way.
