I believe I have had them over a month now, a month and a week or two, maybe? Not very long. Just in the last couple weeks I've started to open the gate to their pen on the weekends, they are starting to be brave and come out to forage for some dead grass and check out the other animals. So it doesn't seem like they've been here very long since they are still mostly in their introductory pen.How long have you had them? Sorry i missed the part where you said when you got them

I think you will. I sure look forward to following along since we won't have any goslings this year. I'll have to enjoy yours and everyone elsesSo far she's laid around 19 eggs in 23 days. I documented when she started, but haven't kept great track of all her eggs. But I have 8 in my fridge, 5 in her nest and 5-7ish on my counter? At least she's an over-achieving hussy! But this is her first year laying, maybe that's why?![]()
I know I really hope they can hatch a couple goslings! It will be really fun to have a little family out there. Like you said, it's already so different from the other poultry, I hope I get to see it all the way through.
You can be their online Aunt. I'll let you know if she starts to brood.I think you will. I sure look forward to following along since we won't have any goslings this year. I'll have to enjoy yours and everyone elses

Really? Wow I didn't know that, but yes, it's only been the two of them and the ducks. Should I set out some oyster shell for her? Or what kind of supplement do geese prefer for calcium?Ok i was just trying to rule out the possibility of them being exposed to another gander before you got them. A gander mating one time with a goose can fertilize her eggs up to 10 days.
19 eggs in 23 days is a lot. I wish mine would do that but if they did id probably be worrying about their calcium levels.
Okay I'll do that this weekend. I didn't even think to give her some because I didn't think she was laying very many eggs. I leave it out free choice all year for the hens, but didn't think geese needed it. I'll leave it out for her all the time, so if she needs it, it's there.Oyster shell is good always offer it during breeding season. Geese lose a lot of calcium while laying and can lose so much that they get too weak and can die from it. Most of us on here let them have access to a small bowl of it all the time so that they can get it when they want it. Put it inside their house where it wont get wet.
