Hi just posting an update.

There are now a few feathers in the nest, and a whole bunch around the pen, feathering a nest must be a challenge the first time. But anyway, my gander as of Friday, has been sitting on the nest non-stop. I feel like HE is trying to go broody? He will reluctantly get off if she wants to come over and sit to lay, or just to fuss with the nest, but other than that he doesn't move. Is it normal for ganders to sit like the girls? Or will she finally sit after she feels she has enough eggs? She has 10 in there now.

I don't think he's been breeding her the last couple days, since he's been (as my boyfriend put it) "so busy being Mr. Mom"

. I forgot to mark/date the eggs, so now I'm not sure which ones would be fertile. So since he's been sitting on them, should I candle them this weekend and see which ones are fertile? Or does him sitting not create the same kind of heat as the goose?

The ducks that came with them have begun to try to breed, but every time the drake mounts the hen my goose gets in his face and yells at him? Is she just being bossy or thinks she's protecting the hen? LOL I feel like as soon as I ask you guys one question, they do something else weird, and I'm confused all over again.

I cannot comment on your gander sitting on eggs I've never seen this before. But I can say that geese do not like any of the other members of the flock be it ducks or chickens mating they like to keep things orderly and a drake mating a duck is forbidden here anyway. lol{the ducks and drakes go off by themselves away from the geese to mate}. They will also break up any fights that the drakes start too.

Your gander is either weird or something else is messed up with him. The more things your gander does the more i think hes a hermaphrodite lol

I know He is the weirdest bird I've ever been around. If the eggs weren't fertile, I didn't see him breeding the female, or her laying eggs, I would 100% think he was a girl. He also honks more than any other goose I've ever been around. But that's a different story.

Well I guess once the ducks and geese get moved into a bigger pen the ducks will be able to get away from the geese a little bit more.

I feel like the pom is the only normal animal out of the bunch. The ducks just lay around most of the time, the ducks I've had in the past were really active and always wanted to swim and forage. These guys just dip their heads in and maybe sometimes swim, and aren't at all interested in foraging. So I have lazy ducks and a girly gander... Maybe I should take them all to therapy. LOL

Yes I posted pictures of the geese on page 329. I had cropped the ducks out, so here is the bigger picture. I think they are some kind of buff/buff duck cross. I'm not a fan of puffy headed ducks, I had read it is a genetic issue or weak spot on the head? But he came with the group and now that I've gotten to know them a bit better, I'd say he fits right in with the weirdos.

Most of them do, right now my oldest gander is acting rabid, but if you just looked at him casually you'd think he was normal .

Rabid! LOL He's feisty due to breeding season then? They are good at hiding it all under beautiful feathers.
