My Goose has so far had 10 goslings. 2 yesterday and 8 this morning. There are still 2 eggs left in the nest. Shes now moved to another nest with her babies with no eggs in them

Do you think the goslings in the two remaining eggs could still be alive? They have been left cold all day. If so could i try and hatch them myself.

I dont know what to do. I cant bear to think of the poor thinks being stuck in the eggs if i can give them a chance!!!!!

HELP!!!!!!! England!!!!

congratulations to your goose & yourself on the new goslings! What breed are they? My Embden goose has been laying for the past month but has no interest in brooding.

In my experience with broody chicken hens hatching chicks there often will be one or two eggs left unhatched after the first group comes out. The hen will stay on the nest for about 24 hours after the first chick pips and stay there without moving as the others come out. The next day she's usually ready to take her chicks for their first outing. Any remaining unhatched eggs will then be abandoned by her. She doesn't seem to want to bother remaining on the nest waiting for them to hatch once she has her other children needing her attentions.

I usually just bury the remaining eggs under a flower bush. I don't have the nerve to crack them to see if they had developed or not. Sometimes they're just filled with goo, or half-developed chicks that for some reason didn't make it all the way. Sometimes they have very slow-developing chicks that would have had some problem if they had hatched. I think this is just Nature's Way, that the hen lays more eggs than she needs to have hatch, just like she'll hatch out more chicks than she needs to grow to maturity.

If you're raising a very rare or expensive breed it might be worth it to make the effort to get every single egg to hatch. Otherwise I figure it's the hen's way of paying taxes to Mother Nature and I use the eggs to fertilize a plant and further its growth.

Sorry Mate but they are dead! geese almost never leave a egg that they can detect life in and they are good at telling what is alive. Look at this way 10 goslings is a very good hatch!
