Hi everybody, I have a broody brown Chinese goose who is sitting on two eggs, both fertile, and I have candled them to see to happy little goslings. But today I candled and saw the first egg was pitch black: I couldn't see anything. the second had an air bubble but it was lined with red. One more thing to mention: I have no idea when she started setting, but I do know it takes about 30 days, and today is June 30, and she started setting sometime in May. Maybe the pictures I am about to send will help. Thank you in advance

Sounds fun. It will be interesting to hear more about it later.

I'm a bit curious why she only had 2 eggs though... that makes me think you could boost the nutrition and she'd have more eggs the next time. I found when my fowl had less nutrition there was less eggs. With more nutrition the number of eggs went up.

Black eggs are puzzling. I don't confess to know everything about it. BUT I did get a few black eggs one time when I fed my ducks black oil sunflower seeds for a few days straight one time. (?) I don't suggest doing that on purpose.

if they are around day 28 they should have an air pocket but you wouldn't be able to see anything else if its just all black no air pocket and no pip its probably dead. if she truly started sitting in may most likely either egg isnt alive. if you wanted goslings now might be a good time to order a couple and put some under her at night.

How does someone put stuff under a goose hen at night anyway? (And without getting bit?) I like your idea; this isn't being negative.

She had more eggs, about 8, but I didn't know she wanted to sit on them so I collected them every day until I realized she wanted to sit. Also, when I say black, I don't mean shell color. I mean the inside is completely opaque
