Goose leg issue

Glad you were able to get it back in place. Let us know how the recovery goes. Hopefully it will start staying in place once that tendon and muscle stretch out more. You could also try slowly moving her leg through it's movement each day.

Sorry about not responding sooner, yesterday and today were super busy. Yes, I'll be sure to post updates. I'm hopeful as I don't surgery for it being an option.

Well this evening when I checked on her leg it had slipped back out of place, however it went back into place much easier. I could have been imagining things but seemed like it sort of wanted to stay on it's own more so than when I initially set it. So hopefully that means progress. We will see.

Well an update of sorts. If I keep it wrapped it'll stay in place until unwrapped. Today she lost her bandage so of course it was out of place when I grabbed her. I'd be up for ideas on wrapping or really anything that might help. I've been just putting it in place and wrapping it basically from midway up the leg down and over the joint. Thanks.

I am not sure if I can offer much advice on wrapping. It is definitely going to be hard with a bird spending time with the others. If they don't get the wrap off, their friends will help pull it off. I found atleast if you end the wrapping on the outside of the leg, with it pointing towards their head. That way when they yank on it, it will only tighten. Again if someone helps them, it will still come off.

Have you seen any progress in your goose's leg movement?

@Isaac 0 , do you have any experience with slipped tendon in adults?

I think it was just not the best stick with the wrap (using vet wrap), she's actually left it alone pretty much. This is the first time since starting to try to reset the tendon that it's happened.

No not really any progress on movement, swelling is still substantial. However, when she lays on it, she no longer lays with it kicked out to her side, she's keeping it under her, and when she walks she doesn't tuck it high, she'll kind of just touch the ground with the tips of her toes. But as far as when I have her in my hand, it still seems to have roughly the same range of movement. So I do think I may be making some progress, but certainly it's slow, and all for nothing if she can't eventually keep it in place. I will blame myself to some degree, I think had a realized the tendon was the problem, and had started treating her for that sooner it might not be so bad off.

Sorry it took me so long to respond. It does sound like she is making slow progress though, which is good. I wouldn't expect it to heal quickly. In people, this kind of injury takes months to heal. I am working with a duck with a slipped tendon, and she has just finally kept her tendon in. It was not quite as bad as your goose, but it is still slow progress. With her whole leg was swollen, so the slipped tendon was not easy to notice. It took me a few weeks to spot it after majority of her swelling had gone down. So don't beat yourself up about it. She is on her way to recovery now. I just wish I knew how well they can recover.

I would try a different brand of vet wrap. They are not all made equally. I was trying a few different brands out this summer treating bumblefoot. I had one brand that was really hard to find the end of the tape it stuck so well. That one annoyed me, but would likely work better for your situation. So maybe give a different brand a try.
