Hi there - your Africans do look like African x Toulouse as they're almost halfway in their type between the two breeds. They certainly look very healthy and also appear big birds

Morning Tripell, yep as Pete said they do appear a cross, hope you enjoy them. The FR you found was a reasonable price. We pay 37.95 for Mazuri per bag, but find it well worth the expense. So yes if that is the best feed you can get in your area, be glad it is a reasonable price. It isnt complete for laying though, you will need to offer layer pellet or oyster shell (separately for the girls).

30 before our breeding season we will switch the geese from Mazuri Maintenance to Mazuri Breeder (their layer feed). we feed a small amount of mazuri as their main diet is whole grains we are hand mixing and adding supplements to as well as free ranging.

Thanks Pete and Celtic,
They are very large compared to my Troulouse, I am hoping that I will have a male in there so that I can have some babies. When I got them they looked kind of sad(needed weight and a pool to clean their feathers).
Celtic when you talked about thier breeder feed/ layer feed are you talking about chicken layer feed? Being that I am in MN when should I start the breeding feed? I will be keeping them outside until we get below -20 degrees. I have the ducks in the barn at night and outside during the day.

This is a picture of my my duck and geese pastures. Right now they have access to both for the winter. Can I feed the FR to my chicks, juniors, and layers? I am hoping to feed just the one bag to everyone.
Thanks agian everyone, Heidi

This one is of my Production Troulouse Geese.
Celtic I finally got some Flock Raiser, I bought the last six bags that TSC had left. I about died about the price $17.99 a bag but if this is the best feed that I can find for them then I will bite the bullet. It will be nice to only buy just one bag instead of 3 different ones. Everyone let me know what you think of them.
Very pretty!

Thanks Marty, I do like how they look, I got them from an auction and thier were many brown chinese and africans. I couldn't get a real good look at them cause they showed up late and were the last one of the day. I can already see a big diference in their looks since I brought them home. The one with the black beak is forming a dewlap and filling out very nice. They still run a way from me but I'm hoping they will start to calm down and start to come closer to me. The old barn is 103 yrs old and starting to really show its age. We have been on the property since 1991 and started to raise sheep until 2009. We love it here!!

Tripell...layiing birds need calcium, so if you are feeding FR you need to offer in a separate container oyster shell so the girls can free choice it as they need/want. This goes for geese, ducks, chickens ect.

Our Chickens eat Purina Omega3 layer pellet year round. The ducks get Mazuri maintenance year round with oyster shell available to them separately. The geese get mazuri maintenance June - November, in December we will switch them to the Mazuri breeder formula until June 2013. We switch in December because we see full breeding and eggs much earlier than many others. 2011/2012 season we had breeding in December and eggs in January from the Sebastopols. We had breeding in the Dewlap Toulouse yard yesterday and today both. Had breeding off and on since last week with the Sebastopols. Guessing we are on track for 2013 to be similar to 2012 for us.

I would guess you wont have breeding until February and eggs in March.

Ok, I'm here for the sole purpose of posting pics. At the end, we'll see if I have pics of everyone. Your going to notice that the africans are coming right up to me now. I came out with the feed buckets for the geese, and stopped and put them down and called the geese. Everyone came running, and I snapped pics while they hung out and stole mouthfulls of dinner.

Everyone is doing great. Here you can see one of the sebbies thats just gotten more and more dark patches on its neck recently, and lots of grey feathers.

Love my babies.
