Okay, my dad has given the goose venture a thumbs up. Yay!!! I have filled out the adoption form. I also went on PayPal and send you $25 to help feed all these beautiful creatures. Please let me know when you want me to send money for the box.

Glad you decided to get these guys! It took me a while to decide that I could take one as well. Im not one to rush into things But then when there were single ganders still looking for homes I knew I could help. I've always wanted a dewlap and am so happy that I am able to help a rescue! Now I'm getting excited too!

Lightning, excellent news and thank you for the payment!! Personally, unless you want to get into breeding, I would stick with the two ganders. They will be best friends and do not need females in their lives to be happy.

Berner, sounds like your sebbies would not cause the deformed grey gander any problems, but if free ranging on 2 acres, I think a physically sound gander would be more suitable, as the deformed gander probably needs to be in a 1/4 acre size (or smaller) pen.

The pasture is fenced in with no climb horse fence but I wondered about the size of the pasture as well. Thats why I left it to you. That sounds just fine. Can't wait to meet the newest member of my little flock

Berner, no problem. I'm thrilled to send you a sound gander. The right home will come along eventually for the deformed boy.

News bulletin: I ordered/paid for 24 swan boxes this morning. They should arrive here next week. Once they get here, I will take to post office with 20lb and 40lb weights to get the estimate for shipping costs. I am hoping I can start shipping in the next couple weeks!!

I'll stick with just the two ganders for a while, then see if I want to start breeding and at that point I can get a couple of girls.

Remember even if all you have are geese of the same breed, come breeding season (if you have ganders and geese both) you will want to split up the pairs or trios and not leave them all together. Unless you dont mind hormone fights, neck grabbing, wing beating and feather pulling.

x2 what Iain said about electric fencing. The electric poultry netting is different than hotwire lines. We use field fencing around the entire property. It is no climb sheep/goat style and works well with the geese too. We use catch corners made from other fencing to herd groups into so they arent running towards/into the field wire.

Otherwise, I can pick out the two smallest ganders to make it work with one box. Boxes are $25 each, but I am happy to apply the payment you made this morning to the box cost.

Just heard from my friends dad in Oklahoma. Geese are doing fine. They are in an acre pasture that is enclosed and has the barn in it. He hasn't let them out where his ponds are so he bought them a swimming pool that he fills and emptys daily. He said the only problem he has had with them is that when he changes pastures with his calves they have to go through the small pasture. The geese chase the calves because they are intruders you know. He hopes they will get use to the calves coming and going and leave them alone. He is really enjoying them and they have become quite friendly to him.

I can do it either way, whatever works best for you. Don't worry about applying the feed payment to the box cost. If you think it would be best to send me the two smallest in one box, that's fine by me. If you would prefer to send me two bigger ganders, I will send you $50 for two boxes. You are the one having to make all this work, and I want to make it easiest on you.

Our pastures are fenced off with woven wire. Later on, if I decide to breed them, I can split the pasture into sections to keep everybody separated. When I mentioned electric fencing I had meant electric poultry netting, not hotwire lines. Is the poultry netting still a no-no? Could I use it to keep pairs separated from each other? What kind of fencing do you use in the catch corners?
