I've been feeding hen layer and wheat, but new celtic had a particular blend I was interested in trying. All I could remember was Mazuri waterfowl, but nothing else!

How are you psue? Always nice to see you. How are your goslings? Mine are getting so big, and the grey toulouse is finally catching up growth wise, and getting some lovely darkness to his gray feathers. (or hers) I've been reading up on sexing them, and I intend to sex the toulouse and Samantha (the white sebbie from byc egg) in another couple weeks, when they are 3 monthes old. I've read its a good time to do it.

Iain, how are ya? I'm so glad some byc folks came and helped you out yesterday. After reading of all the things you've done for those birds, I've double checked on ailments in geese. Guess I'll be thinking on worming this fall.

My angelwing sebbie is doing much better. He's lost some feathers, and is now holding his wing almost correctly, just a bit low. I think he's finally able to hold them up, so it must have had something to do with the weight of those huge feathers he was growing, poor lad.

I think that you and you DH are doing great.

FYI, since they are on pasture, the feed costs so far are not bad. I have been filling a large bucket 2x per day for each group, and the total group estimate cost is 4 bags per week (20% flockraiser, 16% layer pellet, rolled oats and cracked corn) at approximately $70.

I was thinking adults, but I think it would be cheaper to ship youngsters. I'm most concerned about gendors, but since I do have a gray allready, perhaps any two would do, as the odds of a pair are pretty good then. Are there suitable youngsters available?

can't beleive everyone has grown so much! I really love the geese it will be hard to cull them this fall. We're still figuring out if Squishy gets 1 or 2 girls.

We're adopting a pair of greys from the rescue and Jerry is inlove with the buff Dewlaps. Those and Sebastopols are on our list.
It's too bad the geese are seasonal layers or I'd probally get rid of everything else and just keep them

It's been a bad year for heat and rain... we have no grass left and it's only July. Hope we get snow this winter

Marty, I have 2 grey pairs in the juvenile group and 5 grey adult pairs. I will try to get pics for you to help you decide which you prefer.

Sue, after tagging the juveniles, we have more buff pairs than originally thought. Therefore, you guys are getting a buff pair!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the hundreds for about 3 weeks now, grass is going brown and dormant in many places, but I'm blessed with many trees (for Kansas) and the grass in the shade near the waters is doing well. LOL.

I'm with you, if geese laid year round, I'd lose everything else. These friendly geese are nice to have around, and I love them lots. I don't really need to cull, I've only got the 5 sebs and 5 Toulouse. I might be eating a spare Toulouse, but it looks (from size) like I've got one male and 3 female buffs, a female gray, and when I sexed the last sebbie, it looked female, but I'll check again when shes 3 months old. Its tough to tell, when your inexperienced like me, so a recheck seems prudent. The 4 sebs I got from celtic are presexed (thank you celtic!) so I can depend on those. Wish I were as good at is as she is, but if I did it all the time like her, maybe I would be. Check back in 3 years.... LOL

Thanks Iain. If you want to post some pics here, we'll let everyone have an opinion, and decide that way. I know a mature pair will have great eggs allready and full sized ones, but I don't know if they will have issues if seperated from a previous mating. Do we know that any are mated pairs? (I doubit it, but thought I'd ask.) They might tend to hang out togather.... If there seems to be a mated pear of adults, and they are attractive with full dewlaps, I suppose I'd prefer them. I'm open to Celtics opinion too, if she has one. I guess in the end, its cheaper to ship smaller, but safer to receive adults.

What do you all think? Lets take a look at the pics and we'll have a go at deciding.

I've only sexed them a few times... luckly the Embdens are kinda auto sexing the first couple of days. And the babies from the mixed pair are ment for the freezer anyway. We still have 2 pair I think to sell later this year.

Jerry is looking for hay again... as I've fed the last of what we had.
