Iain, sorry we missed your call. Working hard today on that open air building, trying to get the back wall done. 54' of back wall is officially done, can start staking the dividing walls and making the supply list for the posts, wire and 2x4's.

Thanks everyone!!! I am thrilled that we have gotten all the geese off Carole's property. But we still have a ways to go to getting these guys placed into good homes.

As a follow up to my research for getting NPIP certified.... apparently Utah is like Cali and I have to pay my private vet to get the testing done. Cost is $25 per test. I am required to have 10 random juveniles tested, so the grand total to get NPIP certified will be $250. I have an appt on Tuesday to get this done. Now to figure out how to make a pen in my burb to fit 10 birds in it.....

In the meantime, these guys are finding their appetites and feed costs are rising to close to $15 per day. I appreciate everyone's initial response to helping and received almost $200 in donations. However, the donations have stopped rolling in completely while the costs continue to rise. Factoring in the $200 offset of donations, I have invested over $1300 into this rescue, am facing a $250 vet bill, and an ongoing $100 per week food bill.

Any additional financial help would be a great help!!

In regards to fitting the birds in your suburban, see if you can find a rescue that will allow you to borrow dog crates for a day or two.

Thanks for the tip! I did, in fact, pick up an extra large kennel two days ago from my avian sanctuary friend to use.

Today we are finishing up a new awesome pen for my crippled girl (thanks for the design plans, Celtic!) and will introduce blind girl to her. We will then use Spirit's old pen to put the juveniles to be tested up for the night. That way, it will be easier and hopefully less stressful to get them into the burb for their Tuesday morning visit.

Hubby and I are also putting up chicken wire on our panel fencing in the horse property courtyard today in anticipation of putting the older juvenile africans with our african flock. That way they can have access to the big pasture and with only the dewlaps in my side yard, it should hopefully minimize the damage being done to that area.

I spoke with our wonderful friend who is picking up the remaining geese tomorrow (or Wednesday at the latest). He has allowed me to identify him... John Metzer, who fyi does not normally engage in the rescue business but felt compelled to help in this particular instance... the way I did.

He said he will give them a careful exam upon arrival at his place. I will keep everyone updated with his report once received.

At this time, he is planning to keep them all, but will let me know if his plans change.

Would love to see pictures of your open air building as it comes along. I have one drawn up, but is just my idea. Sounds like yours is like what I want too!

Krafty, I will gladly share as we make progress. No plans to go by, just working with the space we wanted to use and figuring out how to best lay everything out. My prized white Sebastopols wont live in it though, they have a three stall building they sleep in each night or their feathers look rough.

Good morning, goose lover friends. Today is the big vet day. Last night, we put all the sacrificial juveniles in the temp pen we made per Celtic's design suggestions, so they are ready to go. Getting ready to rush through morning chores as we are headed out in about 45 minutes. Will give report upon return! I will also post pics later of the new pen, as it is awesome!!!

We are back from the vet. Spirit (my crippled girl) is doing GREAT!! While at the vet's, we put her with blind girl and they hit if off wonderfully. Dr. Echols (my primary vet) thinks that with Spirit as guide goose, there may not be any need for surgery on blind girl. We will do a recheck in 3-4 weeks.

Bumblefoot boy is slowly recovering. Echols said it will take a good 30 days to resolve, and to just let time do its thing for now. All the others are looking good. We took a random group of birds, but I had him vent sex the dewlaps and all tagged birds checked out to be the sex as tagged.

Susan, by the way, we took one of the grey girls to the vet and she is so very sweet! If you were not taking her, I'd want to keep her! On the downer news, one of the two mystery buffs lost its red zip tie so is marked as a boy. So.... unless I re-vent sex all the buff boys, someone may be getting what is marked as boy, but is a female.

When we arrived back home, we put Spirit's companion, Ember, and the mystery buff in with our group and so far it is going ok. We put blind girl with Spirit in her backyard pen and they are adorable together although it will take blind girl some time to understand the backyard is her home now.

Tomorrow will be another exciting day as we will gather up the adults and get them wormed and re-vent sexed. Afterwards, we will turn out the african juveniles with our free-range group (who sadly will be trapped on the horse property side after tomorrow and will not be able to come to the house). Judging by some of the boys' alpha behaviors from both my flock and the rescue group, I expect it to be quite a scene when introducing them.
