Goose lovers – please help!!

We will cranking eggs through like crazy again in spring, but not returning over to the hatching thread. I am guessing 2013 will be much busier around here for us. Sorting the dewlaps and test breeding them will take some time. The sebbies are being split up now, making cuts has been hard this year as we look to improve next years goslings from the improvements we made this year. Selecting breeding stock is the part I like least. We have a few pet quality birds who wont be bred, but who we just adore so they get to hang out while the others are split into breeding pens.

I guess I'm gonna have to send of the feathers. I keep saying it, but unless I go remove a feather, and mark the bird and feather both, it will be pointless. I just want to be sure I keep a pair intact of the buffs, and I'd love to know what little seb is. She is still unhappy with the other sebs. I don't know how I'm gonna get it worked out for he/r and them. I wish I had too much grass. Ours is dry dry dry. We're suffering the worst draught since the 1930s in my part of kansas, so only the true native plants are still alive at this point. We've been on water rest. for 2 monthes now. My poor garden is lost. The grass and the native sandstone/limestone are all about the same shade of dirt brown and grass brown.

We have more grass growing than the geese can keep up with. I have to mow this weekend, and put all of the loose stuff from outside into the out buildings incase this storm turns our way next week.

Dad is down to his last pond and it's bout 1/2 gone... he's still got some clover left so he's not haying yet

everything else is burnt dry. He got one good cutting so I can get some hay from him. Been under water ration and burn ban here since June.

Marty, you need to just leave the youngest Seb with the other four and make her work it out. If you keep her in visual range of the other geese she won't integrate. If you keep taking her out of the Sebs area she won't integrate. They won't ever accept her if you keep sheltering her either by not leaving her in with them. Geese take awhile to adjust to new flock members, so by putting her in and out they aren't accepting her as a flock member.

We have had so much rain (not just our typical FL daily shower) that we are soaked, soft ground, pasture is flooded again when by now we should be back to bare ground again.

Hi all, it's been a few days since I posted, but not too much happening here. I have been working on coordinating a date for next weekend to have my vet come for a site visit. He will check up on Spirit (my crippled girl) and Gimpy (the limping beat up grey juvenile gander). He will also give the crippled grey adult pair an exam to determine cause of problem, degree of discomfort, and possible treatment (if any). Finally, I will have him vent sex the buff adults to double verify the sexing that my avian sanctuary guy did.

I finally placed a local ad for the extra adult ganders, and have received a couple calls. One is for a breeding pair (which I have a few left) and the person sounds like a good potential owner. He seemed knowledgeable, experienced, and excited. He plans to come out this weekend to get them and will have to drive 200 miles each way so that says something about his level of seriousness. I also got a call for a pair of ganders who may be a possibility, but we will see if I get a follow up call tomorrow on them.

FYI, the 2nd person who had wanted to get the brown african juveniles has fallen through. I'm getting ready to list them locally too. There is one especially nice pair among the group. Anyone interested??

Finally, I have not heard back from the person who had said he wanted the white african adult trio. I'd like them to go to a serious breeder's home only, since white africans are very rare. Anyone know someone that would be suited to have them??

Morning all, spent yesterday making more soap for orders we had this week. 30 minutes until we are set to open for the day, hoping we sell out quickly so we can close early.

Slept well, but so darn tired today. Moved the dewlaps here from one yard to another this week, they have the millet yard now and are loving it.
