I agree with Marty:) I have been following this thread from the beginning and have been so tempted by the grey ganders. Right now I have Sebbies (I'm kind of a home for the old and infertile

) but have always wanted a big dewlap toulouse. Oh the temptation...

Hey nancy,

The millet yard wasnt in use last week when you were here. it was below the coop and before the pasture. We fence off areas from the birds each spring and seed them extra heavy so late summer we can open them for grazing. Millet cant be seeded here in FL until after April 15th. This time of the year it starts to goto seed and can no longer be seeded again because of the heat and rolling into fall. Makes a great space though if seeded in spring. We seed spring, fall and winter cover crops and keep them fenced off to allow growth, then open them up to the birds.

I planted millet around my pond yesterday. Within an hour, there was a chicken stampede heading towards the pond. They ate their fill and came back for more today. I guess I don't have to worry about it going to seed. LOL

Have you ever planted lemon grass or wheat grass? I'd like to find it as I've heard they love it and it's good for them.

Nancy

wheat is a winter crop for FL, anything you seed will have to be completely fenced off to the birds until well established or they will destroy it or eat all the seed.

I shop around online looking for the best price. Seed prices vary so its just about googling and searching for a good price when you are ready to buy. Sometimes our feed store can get good deals for me so I always check with them as well.

Berner, what's stopping you from getting one or two grey ganders then??
