Love all the new pics thanks

We pulled the littlest buff male and a grey female from the pasture today to put with the crippled grey pair. The new pair were very happy to rejoin old friends and hang in sprinkler. They are getting along great and the crippled boy has relaxed 10x since drakes left. He spends a lot of time lounging in kiddy pool and is starting to learn the joys of watermelon. His lameness is improving a lot too.

Here they are group shot in sprinkler. The disabled pair are on the right side, with the boy to the left of girl.

if I only had the room.

Hello Guys,
I know I backed out of the adoption because of finacial reasons. I have so much room but a tight budget, and been sick alot lately. I have been trying to raise funds for you but people here are having the same problem with money. Many of them have said that if it was here in MN they would be glad to help. I got upset but I couldn'tb blame them. I am still trying to help out. Iain you and your friends have done such a wonderful job. Thank you , Heidi

Iain, the right home will come along for the Africans in the end. I know you had no plans to even bring Africans back with you, but did so on request. We will find a home for them sooner or later and it will be a good forever home.

Maybe you should list them in buy-sale-trade, but give the link to the adoption site, and a brief explaination. That way, you might find more potential adopters, and you can still screen them and find that perfect home.

I feel like a total heel asking this but my experience lies with Sebastopols...These toulouse don't seem to have the big dewlaps and extreme deep keel that I am used to seeing in this breed. Is this just they're type or lack of weight? If its a weight issue will that develope as they continue to gain condition? Just wondering...

I know that if your showing them you want them much heavier then if your just breeding. and these guys are under weight and some are to young yet to be that big.
Janet says they have all gained some much needed weight since she's had them.

edited because some days I can't even spell "cat"

The greys are in far better condition than the buffs are. However if you google dewlap toulouse pictures most of the birds you will see are 4-7 years old and older. They dont develop fully by 1 year unlike other breeds. They also do not prefer large pastures, smaller space is good and they require far more feed than other breeds to keep them in proper condition. If you feed them the same amount you feed a Sebastopol they will remain underweight. Think slow like a sloth and large like a hippo.

Also you need to be well aware these are RESCUES not show quality in perfect condition birds. Most are 1 year and under with many being 2012 goslings. The keels develop with proper nutrition and over a long period of time. These birds were skin and bones when they were picked up in CA. The weight gain that has gone on since they have moved to Utah is amazing and they will continue to grow and develop.
