Hello everyone im new to BYC. I have a goose/gander not sure the sex yet and not even really sure of the breed for that matter. I purchased hm/her at 2 days old and was told it was an African. At 11 weeks old now im not sure exactly what he/she is. The white strip on the front of the chest, bill is turning orange in spots and i read that the knob on the top of the bill should start developing by 6-8 wks old, and im not seeing even the beginning of one started. Woo Woo, that's what we named him/her, just hissed and backed up for the first time today when the cat came around the corner and he's an older cat and Woo Woo has never done that to him before.

So my question is, can someone please help with gender and breed? I can take more pictures.

toulouse gander

judging by the last picture.

If this is a full grown goose.

the gander is flat on the stomach between the legs. the goose will have a pronounced "rudder" between the legs.

Africans and Chinese have a larger hump at the base of the beak.

this only applies to adults.

if this is an immature specimen, then your guess is as good as mine.

the African gander will have a very shrill pitched voice.

the Toulouse is more of a low pitched honk.
