Goose seizure?

I posted in emergency section, but I didn't get any help so I'll try here. I have a 2 month old American Buff goose. Friday night she and her duck brother didn't come in when called like usual. I found goose on her back flailing her legs she could not stand up (seizure?) I took her to a vet Sat. the only vet in town that was open and would see a goose. And they said she probably had head trauma, which there's NOTHING out back that could cause such severe head trauma. Today is tuesday and she has improved some, still can't walk but can stay on her stomach without falling onto her back. She is eating and drinking fine, poop is normal stools although lighter in color since she hasn't been grazing only eating the poultry feed. Please help if you have any advice!! I am waiting on a call from another vet that *supposedly* knows more about geese..

Sounds like she could have eaten something bad for her. Molasses mixed into drinking water can help flush their system. Activated charcoal (from a pharmacy) is also good for absorbing toxins.

Thank you for replying. Do you know the measurements to give? Either charcoal or molasses will work? I do not want to hurt her more. I also just googled toxic plants and I don not have any in our yard. I am so confused and just want her well!

what kind of swimming area do you have set up for them? could she have fallen getting out of the pool and maybe hit her head?My goose never looks where he is going. found this on another thread:
Molasses flush = 1 pint molasses per 5 gallons water, given for no longer than 8 hours. Give as needed for GI system distress and possible poisoning.

Thank you! Going to get molasses now. As far as swimming we have a plastic kiddie pool in the middle of the grass. I really don't think it was a head injury, the vet wasn't experienced with geese and tried to help the best she could. Her thinking was that since goose was fine an hour previously that it must be trauma.

Try and move the pool to a shady spot, water heats up fast in the summer. Also make sure the geese have plenty of shade to retreat to. They are wearing down coats and can easily ver heat.

Thanks again!! We actually live on the coast of northern California so far our summer has been 58-70 degrees. I will let you know how it works out I really appreciate all the help!

Hi There,

Did you ever find out what the problem was? I seem to be having a similar problem. I posted to find out if anyone could help. I do have a goose that had a head trauma and she is doing pretty well. I doubt she will ever fully recover. She walks on her toes for the most part and once in a while she falls over and can't get up. I make sure I see her whenever I go outside. You never know when or where she will get stuck. Usually in the most difficult places to get too...... ugh.

The goose right now I don't know what happened. It's having spasms. I hope your goose is ok and you find out what the problem was.
