Goose sitting in hayfield....

Hi! We have a random lone goose who has been hanging out in the same spot for 2 days now in our hay field. It doesn't seem sick or injured... I don't want to approach it, but also worry it will get eaten by something if it continues to sit out in the open.

Any thoughts about why this goose might be hanging out alone?

That's very cool! Well, it's a wild animal though so you really can't intercede too much. Do you have a Department of Natural Resources or wildlife refuge you could call for them to check on it? They may just say to leave it alone as it may just have an injury of some type it's working through.

It may have lost its mate too. Maybe a flock will fly over and it'll join them.

That sure looks like a domestic goose. May have wondered from flock or been dumped.

I second that goose looks domestic. If it were me, I would try to approach it. Bring some scratch and see if it's friendly. If it hasn't moved, it could be injured and need help

Looks like a Swan goose crossbreed. Maybe it's sitting on egg? Do you have animal control where you live? If not I'd probably try to feed it.

Thank you all for the advice. I have chicken feed i put about 15 feet from it so hopefully that keeps it alive in this weather. It was not happy I got close lol it moved about 50 yards so I don't think it has a nest.

I'll pick up some corn tomorrow if the weather holds off. We've been snowed in for days. I'm wondering if the bad weather just has it lost? My husband asked a few neighbors but nobody is missing a goose. Hmmm
