Goose with scaly mite?

Nope just this one.
I think his immune system must be low as he had an eye condition as well. Just not feeling very well. Eating well though. Just has problems keeping up the with rest of the group. The scales are not raised as such. It just looks like his scales are really dirty and he has some quite deep cracks in his skin. When we dabbed the stuff given by the vet , just the moving of the skin caused it to crack and bleed. It looks like he is sloughing his skin/scales and all the things underneath look healthier. Very difficult to explain.

Pretty sure it is mites though.

Poor baby I hope you see improvement quick.

I have never seen anything like that before! That is some nasty looking stuff. Did the vet put the goose on any antibiotics just in case of infection from this infestation? I would soak those feet like Miss Lydia says in Epsom salts. Plus put him on antibiotics...

Nope not antibiotics. Its not infected yet just sore. Very nasty. Poor thing.

No massive improvement yet. We are going to give the vets treatment first for three weeks and then go onto Epsom salts and vinegar.

Want to give the vets stuff a go first just so we can go back to them and say yes or no, it did/did not work.

Also got a smaller gosling with something stuck under its tongue. This happen sometimes to other people? The vets was saying if it does not improve they would have to sedate the gosling to get out what ever is underneath her tongue. She has a healthy appetite and had a jab of antibiotics and the swelling has gone down. Just giving her loads of water in the hope that it would come out on its own.

It never rains but it pours...

UPDATE:
The goose with the bad feet got a lot worse over the first few weeks of the vet treatment so I went back to the vets to get some stronger stuff.

He is now on Fuciderm (for dogs) once a day (meant to be twice but he needs 12 hours of no contact with our river after treatment so only at night can we guarantee this) and also he is getting a twice weekly injection of Panomec for three weeks (for cattle/sheep) and AMAZINGLY he has show a massive improvement.

Not sure which is doing the job but I am just happy he is getting better.

All the others are fine, no more problems so far.

That's great news. what an ordeal you and he have been through.

Yes it is a bit. We have now learnt how to inject him.

He is such a star though. He comes up to the gate for his treatment every night.

I think it is mainly because he has a whole scoop of rolled barley as well, while his siblings look on.
