We just noticed an area on our African goose's neck that is bald. We picked her up for examination, and the area is nearly the size of a nickel, and has a hard/scaly/scab-like texture. We are hoping it's not mites/mange, but none of our other birds have anything like this. If you look close, there is a line across it. Maybe a scratch or injury? But not sure why it's bald around it. I've seen her scratch that area before, but not frantically. I checked the birds' feet also, and appear normal, in case there was a possibility of mites.
I managed to get a couple photos of it. It appears wet in the photo because we sprayed it with Silver Honey (made for animal wounds). It's an all natural spray for healing. Doubt it'll help whatever this is, but figured it can't hurt. She's eating and drinking like normal.
What on earth could this be? Thanks for reading.
