GORGEOUS: A family's problem is our dream!

Beautiful fella.

Frozen peas and frozen blueberries make nice treats that would help him on really hot days. Mine also like watermelon.
Hope you find him a nice gal & they enjoy their new home with you.

I pulled up lifespan of peafowl on the web again, because it started bugging me where I read that about the age. Sure enough .... there are numerous sites out there that say IN THE WILD the average lifespan of peafowl is about 25 years. Yet in capitivity, where they are fed, wormed, tended to etc .... you could see up to 45 years. I think I also saw something aout the average captive lifespan being 35-37.

As for parrots, they most certainly can live well into their 70's. There are birds on record that were wild caught, in the days when that was legal, live in zoos, have been in capitivity for almost 70 years already. Trying to remember which zoo that was who had lost their oldest cockatoo ... he had lived at the zoo for something like 72 years and was brought to the zoo as an adult wild caught bird. So no one even knows how old the bird was when it got to there. Rule of thumb with birds (at least with parrots, etc) ... the larger the bird, the longer the lifespan. Parakeets are much shorter lived than say a scarlett macaw.

Having said that, I wonder if this is also true of wild birds. Smaller the animal, faster the metabolism, the shorter the lifespan?? Same for rodent type animals when you think about it. The only thing is .... this theory doesn't hold true for dogs. It goes the opposite way .... curious .... hmmmmm ....
