Gory Pictures of Mature Quail Hen Repro Tract (Just what you wanted with your breakfast!)

Last time I had to put down a mature laying hen I thought the repro tract looked really cool as we were cleaning it but it was a little late to get the camera, not this time though (behavior issues)! The bird has been skinned and spatchcocked this is a view from the dorsal (back) of the bird just opened up. Pretty amazing! The yolks just sit there like grapes with more little follicles ready to grow!

I just harvested one (quail) hen that looked like this today. Since its hind end looked very bruised and it appeared to have very full bowels too, I assumed it this is what "egg bound" looked like.

I'm not terribly familiar with fowl maladies. But can someone confirm that all those yolks are an okay thing and not egg bound.

Now I'm upset I may have harvested a bird that wasn't finished producing.

All of those yolks are completely normal. The eggs develop sequentially like that.
