I have a 2 1/2 month old Toulouse mix goose. She is my pet, I hatched her. She hatched late and mom left the egg behind. She's been raised with a duckling and 7 banty chicks. They have been moved outside for a while now. I do let her roam outside the pen when I'm out side. I have several other ducks and a few geese that free range.
Well on sunday, fathers day, I had her out and she was wondering around. My mom's dog, a husky, who normally leaves them all alone, decided to go after my baby. He did bite down on her left side by her hip area. He only had a hold of her for a few seconds before I grabbed him off her. There were no pucture wounds that I could see. She couldn't stand up. It was hot that day, 95°f and humid. She was panting really hard so I filled up the kiddy pool and let her sit. I figured it would be good to cool her down and get some weight off her legs. She wasn't really moving her left leg much. She stayed in the cold pool for about an hour. She wanted out. But then layed down right away.
It's now Tuesday, she can get up and somewhat move around, but she's really wobbly and she stands straight up when trying to walk. She has gotten into the kiddy pool by herself also.
I know she has to be in pain. Is there any think else I can do? I'm thinking just her muscle is really sore. Would an Epson bath help? Her bottom is feathered out so I didn't know if an Epson bath would help since it would just be her legs in the water. Are there any pain meds you can give geese or duck?
Sorry for the long post but I've never had an injured goose/duck before in the many years I've had them.
