So this evening I saw a little Goose waddling down the road. It had no mom that I could see so I picked it up and put it into a brooder that I used for my chicks. It seems only a few days old. I put a heat lamp on it and gave it chick food and water. It seems to have eaten a little and it found the water. What do I need to do for it? Any suggestions? Should I introduce it to my 6 week old chicks?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Dont keep giving it chick food it can kill it,and keep it away from the chicks for a while.

I would post pictures of it 1st... then we can tell you exactly what it is.

I have my goslings with my chicks... but only for about 2 to 3 weeks... and once they chicks are hardy enough and they can be without the light, Outside they go with the other chicks... Ive got a little "Herd" running around outside. Its the coolest flock ever.

Id be afraid that your chickens would harm the baby goose. Wait a few weeks until he's bigger than they are to introduce them together. That way he can hold his own.

Congrats on finding a baby.

What kind of gosling is it? If it's a Canada gosling, you might have to turn it into a wildlife rehab place. Either way, it's good you're helping.

P.S. All my chicks, baby ducks, and baby geese get Chick starter. Ive been doing this for about 4 years. He'll be fine as long as he has access to water to drink. Dont give him a tub to swim in because he may get waterlogged and drown.... Use your best judgement. Just because something works for one person, may not work for another. Keep a close eye on him. Make sure he has warmth but not too hot. Treat him like a chick,

Good Luck

Actually it CAN eat chick food. Medicated chick feeds the best. Introduce it, but watch for a while. If noticed feather loss or something, take it out.

Thanks for the help. We are pretty sure it is a Canadian gosling, but we'll take a snap of it and post it once we figure how to do that! We have the heat lamp on and it is drinking water often. Should we get another from TSC to keep it company? That was a suggestion from my DH! Surprise, surprise! It was pretty comical when we first found it, waddling down the road as if it owned it. I am surprised it was not hit by the other cars or eaten by the neighborhood cats. Pretty little thing, though, only about 5" tall and very frightened at this time. We have it in the garage where it is dark and quiet.

Yes, all chicks do better when theres more than one. I hope you the best of luck
