I have a gosling I'm told to be about 7 weeks old now with a severely swollen leg that is quite warm to the touch and deteriorating rather rapidly. He (for all intents and purposes this is just a guess) has been fine up until yesterday.

I noticed he was laying much more than usual and walking oddly but could find no sort of indication of injury. I'm completely ignorant about geese and assumed I'd made the error or not providing enough niacin so I began immediate supplementation hoping to correct the issue.

As of this morning he was standing poorly and this afternoon he is unable to stand and moves himself by flapping wings and dragging (of course once I saw this I haven't allowed him to walk anymore).

I've had him in a tub of water for a swim twice today. First he favored the opposite leg and second he practically kept the swollen one out of the water. Absolutely no use as of now and he is pained greatly when the leg is maneuvered. I've even tried icing to help the swelling

What can I do to help this poor gosling?
(Photo of only foot was this morning and entire leg shot is from only a moment ago)

There wasn't any outside time for the past two days (Saturday and Sunday) but prior to that I have been providing outside grazing opportunities at least for a few minutes daily with greens clippings to supplement indoor food. Today I had the gosling outside in the soft grass as much as possible for grazing and sunshine (with breaks in shade). There are no visible wounds anywhere on the body and he isn't left alone unless enclosed in a safe environment indoors.

I'll have to get Epsom salts tomorrow and give that a go. I made a turmeric poultice and wrapped his entire leg in a bandage to keep in in place. It's the last thing I could come up with for the night. He's just been lying in this box I've put him in and doing nothing but near constant whinnying since the last bath I gave him.

We tried an epsom salt soak and honestly I didn't see much if any improvement. I used a half gallon jar to prevent ingestion. He's has diarrhea now... Mostly yellow in color. He remains completely unable to stand on his foot and is obviously in pain. I thought this might be a niacin deficiency in the beginning due to my own ignorance, but just the one side wouldn't be affected I'd think. I'm beginning to wonder if I need to try antibiotics. There isn't a vet locally that sees geese to my knowledge.

I Was Hoping A Warm Soak Would Help, Have You Tried Calling Around And Asking The Vets In Your Area What Might Be Going On With Your Baby Maybe They Will Have An Idea Of What To Do...
