My 15 day old gosling swallowed a rubber band, like a medium/average size one, about 10 hours ago. It was cut, so it was more like a string. I spoke to the emergency vet when it happened and they don't see geese so wouldn't take him. They said that it should just pass through, but I'm really worried. Only vet that could see him today is 2 hours away, husband thinks it may be worse to stress him out with a 2 hour drive rather than just let him pass it on his own.

Has anyone ever dealt with this? What was the outcome?
Would it be better to drive him 2 hours or let him pass it on his own? Any suggestions at all?

He is eating, drinking, pooping, running around etc, normal/healthy looking. One thing that concerns me is that his poop has not had white in it for a couple hours now. Could that mean something is obstructed?

Thanks so much for any help.

Thanks so much for the responses. I see that people give them oil for things like this, would that be a good idea in this case?

Does anyone know if his gizzard would grind it right up or would I see the rubber band in his poop?

Coconut oil shouldn't hurt him.

I would guess that since a rubber band is pretty soft you may not actually see it come out.

I would not worry if I were you.

Hmmm I'm unsure about this as I've never seen or noticed any of my birds swallow something foreign. I doubt it will grind up in the gizzard, but who knows, I could be wrong. Chances are you will see it in their feces, or it might stay in the body

Gross but I’ve been thoroughly examining each poop. I just found a small bit of something that maybe seemed like rubber, kind of a bouncy texture. It yellowish though and the rubber band was a light brown but maybe digestion can do that... will keep monitoring him. Thanks!

Weird! Glad she was okay though. My gosling has passed maybe 15 or so small pieces of rubber band now. There’s 1-2 pieces in every poop. Hopefully he passes the rest without issue! Thanks so much to everyone here for all your help!
