Gosling with bloody stool.

I found 1 chick, 1 duckling, and 1 gosling dead this morning which leaves 1 duckling and 1 gosling. I'm taking the shotgun approach and treating with tetramycin and amprolium unless someone has a better idea. I don't have access to a vet and I don't have much else to lose : (

No offense but you were told prior to use Amprolium by the hatchery. Is there a reason you didn't start that treatment, or take a stool sample to any vet asking to have it tested for the possible problem?

Yes, I got it as quickly as I could and gave it to them as soon as I got it. I went to 3 different towns trying to buy it and I ended up ordering it and have it express shipped to me. There is not a poultry vet anywhere in my area or an agency that does testing. I'm doing the best I can with the resources available to me.

Sorry to hear about your loss. How are your remaining babies and have you commenced the Amprolium medication? It does sound like Coccidiosis which is infective and very serious in youngsters. You must keep these birds in strict isolation while you work this problem out. Amprolium tends to show improvements quite rapidly within a couple of days. Im not sure that giving Tetracycline is a wise idea when its a provisional diagnosis and would recommend Amprolium only for now.

OK Pete, I'll try that. It's been 24 hours since I started the treatment. The duckling has been eating & drinking happily and shows no signs of illness. Last night the gosling had bloody stool and was lethargic. I administered fluids & medicine with a syringe and she's up & about this morning and drinking on her own which I didn't expect so maybe things are looking up. Yesterday she was crying out for her lost mate and it broke my heart. She was pitiful.

She'll be ok with the duckling for company but single goslings do want a lot of attention! Have you started the Amprolium medication?

For future reference, get in touch with your local extension office to see where you can send samples. Maybe they will know someone local and if not, they will know where you can ship them to. Not all extensions are created equal. If your local one doesn't seem to know what you are talking about, then get in touch with a different counties extension office. You can also contact the state university testing labs directly.
