Hey! I just noticed...I'm not "Out of the brooder" anymore. I am now "Chillin' with my Peeps". Right on!

I use a terracotta dish (the sort you use under pot plants) they retain and radiate warmth really well. A small one in the incubator and then a larger one in the brooder - its really cute to see a whole heap of chicks under the heat lamp all trying to squeeze into the dish.On the incu thing, I started buying the waffled dish rags that you can buy a bunch of for five dollars at the dollar store, wash them so they are soft, and hook up a brooder light, loosely wrap the dish rag over them after I have laid them on it, and they move around in it until they find their comfortable spot and go to sleep. No more bickering. I guess all babies like their woobies(blankies). Funny thing is that they will sit on it after they are walking around and eating and drinking when they go to sleep, and they don't poop on it. That blows my mind!

That is also a really good idea. I am never opposed to trying new things. The terra cotta does make a lot of sense. Thanks for that!I use a terracotta dish (the sort you use under pot plants) they retain and radiate warmth really well. Your hand does not necessarily have to be that steady. The forceps are doing most of the work. I talk to the babies constantly while working, so they are relaxed and talking back in their happy language. They get to sleep in a tub next to my bed, so they can be secure. Should I give them a teddy bear too?My RG you have written a book.I would love to see you working on a tiny new hatchling. you have to have a steady hand for that kind of work. I've never had any hatchlings in a bator, although I had a new hatched Muscovy a couple years ago, my first time ever since I have always relied on Mama duck to take care of everything but she didn't want this duckling so I raised him, Thank Abba as you have stated, [I love that Name by the way] Only thing he had going was she had pecked him in the head a couple of times and he had some minor cuts other wise was a healthy baby. I did watch 2 of out newest ducklings not quite 2 weeks old sparing this afternoon, it was so cute.![]()
Very cool stuff there RGthe 2nd.All the years of growing up with Doctors, nurses, and medics in the family didn't hurt. We are all lovers of medicine. My mother and I are big into medical and veterinary medicine. We love animals and would never dream of charging a penny for what we do. Labor of love. Abba is Hebrew for Father. Since He is our Father, I like the more intimate, childlike usage of Abba or Avi. The Lord's Prayer that Yeshua taught was not new. It is known as the Avinu(Our Father) in Hebrew. It was 102 degrees today. HEEEEEELPPPPP! I'm melting!!!!!!!!!!!!![]()
I'm not sure how you spell it either, but you're right. It's supposed to be 105 degrees tomorrow. I wear long sleeves(natural fibers) and a cowboy hat outside and I don't get hot, but this is insane! I've been going out and giving the birdos showers. They get all silly. It's great fun. And then there's the mud puddles. I must confess, I don't mind getting wet, either.Very cool stuff there RGthe 2nd.all except the weather. Heavens to murcatroid [probabl
y spelled wrong]![]()
