Gosling with Leg Issues

Well done, then.. I have a feeling the high oxalic acid can interfere with their growth too, so prob best not to offer that, especially when there are a lot of other things that are good. Hope you have success.

I increased the greens more than 4 times. Fresh swiss chard and clover from the garden and lettuce. I also add brewer's yeast in their water too. So, how long will it take to see any improvement? She loves eating the greens and swimming. It looks almost normal in water so I think her legs are not injured.

Once she gets a good amount of niacin, you should see a difference very quickly. The after a few days you can cut the niacin a little, maybe give it just every 3 days regularly and see how she goes. After couple of months she shouldn´t need it as a regular thing.

Today, I noticed one new thing that she didnt do before. One of her legs spasms or cramps as seen in the picture. It happens during the swimming too but I couldnt catch the moment. I guess she is going worse than better. I am sad. With all the greens and additional yeast I expected she would get better.

That´s weird. I´ve never seen a gosling with niacin deficiency do this. But keep an eye on her in the water.
I lost one of mine when it drowned all of a sudden in the water. It was having some sort of convulsion so I got it out of the water and fed it up and it seemed to recover, but later on I discovered it had drowned. that was before I found out about the niacin. Since then I´ve had no more problems. Keep up the feeding for them anyway, as it´s good for them, and I just hope your little one improves. There are also all-round liquid tonics for waterbirds that you can put in their water just in case she has some other deficiency.

Do you think something maybe slipping out of place to make the leg go in that direction? maybe it's hip joint? I'd say an avain vet would be best bet for this lil one.

Poor thing is getting worse and worse. Today, she cant use the other leg that why she cant move! When she tries to move it flips over on her back! And she also cant swim properly today. Paddles both legs but cant move forwards. Struggles a lot. I seriously have no idea whats going on with her. Avian vet is a luxery here! I will try to take her a vet tomorrow but I am not hopeful if i can find any useful help. The other brown chinese goslings are doing great, thank God. Walking and running and growing... but this white one is going down :( It's heart breking to watch her like this. I am so sad.

So sorry, hopefully your vet will at least know what it is and can offer some kind of treatment. Please don't leave her in water by herself she may drown. not a good way to go.

It sounds like the goslings system is failing to thrive and get the proper nutrients throughout the system correctly. This will cause all the symptoms you are dealing with. Good luck at the vets with the gosling...

I didn´t like to say it, but it does sound that way. We all lose some, sadly. I recently lost a Brahma chick like this...just very slowly went down, no matter what I did. the rest were fine.

Update... The other goslings collapsed last night out of nothing. Now, 3 of them are unable to move around. I was able to talk to an avian veterinarian professor on phone this morning. She said the symptoms point mineral deficiency rather than niacin or bacterial/viral infection. She said if I provide them a multi mineral supplement they would be fine in a couple of days. Especially calcium and magnesium. She also advised me to give them hard boiled quail eggs with the shell. Wish me luck and pray for my little ones! Thank you all for your concerns and replies. I will keep you updated later.
