Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

Right now the pieds have been running around with the chinese, which is fine because they are chinese. Its weird though that they know what they are even after being raised by a tufted roman pair. I want to breed them back to the white chinese only, kind of what i am doing with the crossbreeds, to try for more white on the pied bodies.
Yours sound very nice! Especially the blue eyes, none of my pied has blue eyes. I bet your dilutes are really pretty!!
My white ganders, being auto-sexing have the double dilute gene, so put to a female that has a single dilute gene(light grey) the babies are obvious. But the auto-sexing double dilute put to unknown geese is very interesting, so I´m looking forward to results this winter (July - Aug) and see what happens. I also bought 2 geese, I understand them to be saddle-back auto-sexing, but I´ll put them to 2 more auto-sexing ganders here ( I have 6 all together), and see what comes out of that....that should prove whether they´re truly auto-sexing geese or not, at least.

Now, from what I remember white chinese aren´t double-dilute gene (not sure, just vaguely in my head, this), so the result may be different. I wonder if any of the babies, having a white chinese parent, will have blue eyes with pied colouring?

How do you tell if they have the dilute gene? I havent gotten that far into understanding their genetics yet. Do you have to have them tested or do you go by what they produce?

helllo byc members i am VERY new with geese i dont think i have even ever touched a goose but anyway today i was at a fair and there were fertile geese eggs for sale so i said id buy 1 goose egg and stick it in with my chickens he told me to turn them and spray them every so often i put them in this morning and ill keep ye updated if it is alive and growing hehe

ohh and do geese go broody like once or twice year all the time or are they like chickens some will some wont is it common for geese to go broody thank you :D

Geese have a breeding/laying season. Starting about february or march and ending about May. Occasionally one may lay in the fall but its not common. Geese will go broody when they feel they have enough eggs for a clutch. If you take the eggs after they lay them they will lay longer and until they are finished for the season.
If your egg hatches you will need to get it another gosling for a buddy. Geese are social birds and are much happier with other geese.
Eggs take anywhere from 28-34 days to hatch. Most hatch at 30 days but it can range between 28-34 days.
Turn it atleast 3 times a day. I mist mine every other day, but that is because where i live the humidity is high and i do not want too much fluid gain on the gosling. Too much can cause stress on its heart when hatching. Someone else may be able to give you more info on misting though.
Everyone has different methods for hatching so you should have a lot of advice really soon.

Serv that is if I get any buffs... Buff females do not produce buff unless the gander carries buff... My sneaky buff Toffee has been cheating on her Grey gander split to buff, with my smooth breasted blue gander Berrie! Berrie was suppose to be a buff  and he came out of a buff nest I was told. So maybe he is split for buff we shall see. I will know at hatch if I have any buffs because I remember the color when I got my 2 buff goslings.

Hahaha sounds like drama in the goose world ! And lets see when your goslings hatch if you have a buff or atleast a different colour then white !

Hair lip is just a term i used to describe it. Hair lip actually happens in humans when the lip is not there and appears to be attached to the nostrils.
Here is A pic of Baby's bill the nostril was open all the way to his mouth

Also the top of the bill was loose from skull you can see the fold in the bill where the knob would be at in this pic.

8! That fat little gosling looks just like my african gosling that took more then 2 days to hatch! When it tried to hatch the egg was extremly sticky and i always wondered what it was! Its head was over sized and yea the beak looked odd, but i dont know about that gosling in the picture

That was a pure brown chinese gosling. Sadly he didnt make it. Only lived 2 days, never opened his eyes(wondering if he even had eyes) never stood up, i kept him in a small basket trying to get him stronger. Nothing worked i even worked his legs like therapy. He was basically just a gosling body with no movement or life to him.
