I'm looking for some advice/support. I started with 3 Toulouse geese several years ago as a trade for 10 ducklings, and every year the one female has gone broody and we've let her produce a single offspring; hence, we now have 6 geese. This morning I found her setting on a nest of 10 eggs, and I don't know what to do. We really can't handle more geese on our little farm, and I hate the idea of taking the eggs away from her. This will sound crazy to some of you, but it was traumatic seeing her and her brothers separated from their parents when I went to pick them up as babies a few years ago, and I can't imagine taking her little ones away from her to sell. How do the rest of you handle this? Geese are so bonded to one another, and to rip them away from their families is simply wrong to me. Any suggestions about how to handle this situation?

Theres not much choice then. You either take her eggs and toss them out, or let her hatch them and either keep them or sell them. Thats it. Its up to you.
One way that i would do it is let her hatch them, and then take them away from her as soon as they fluff and she leaves the nest with them. Then sell them. She will be a little upset with this but the goslings will have each other and are young enough that it wont bother them as bad. I wouldnt let her keep them any longer than what i said above, the longer they spend with her the more they will bond and the more they will stress.

I bought some ceramic gooses eggs just for this purpose that way she can brood but if I don't want any offspring there won't be any and she'll get off the nest after a time. I bought mine from Premier 1 but you can probably find them at other places too.

Who's waiting impatiently for eggs to hatch yet? I'm only on day 14 and it's taking soo long! Anyone would think I had nothing better to do.

To pass the time, here's a picture of Monster Moose having a splash around.
