Goslings of 2014 Hatch-a-long

She hatched quite the variety of colors. I told Iain he can pick one or two to let Bolshy keep and raise, but the rest need to get listed for sale asap.... especially when he still has two more ducks sitting on nests.

I have a couple of barred goslings with smutty mucky-brown colouring, just the slightest bit, on the tail, so I´m hoping they may turn out to be some shade of grey......
Is it easy to sell them where you are? I keep mine until they´re about 3-4 weeks old, not sleeping under mom any more, then they go. But I´ll hang onto the ones with those smutty little tails, just to see.....

I found an awesome post for angel wing that helped fix Forest's problem. I used scotch masking tape. It helps to support the wing. The tape removes easily without hurting the feathers. Maybe once you figure out why the wing is droopy, you can apply the tape as a sort of brace? The key is to use the under feathers as support so bird can still move and flap wing (at body) without wing being able to extend the entire wing. Here is a pic of Oliver. You can see the way I have his wings taped in x's. Tape goes on the inside of the wing as far up as you see on the outside so it supports wing on inside and outside. Be careful to make sure wing is in proper position when folded. Be careful not to tape small feathers on rib cage/body as they will pull out. When I taped Forest's wing, I left it on for two weeks. Changed it and left it on for another 2 weeks and wing stayed in place after that. With a sprain/injury you might need less time. not sure. once you find out where the injury is you can decide if wing needs to be taped to body or taped my way. There is lots of info online about how to tape wing to body too.
Yes i use by on a smart phone and my tablet. but i checked before and still no app for by yet! And thank you so much for the info i appreciate. your help! See what i can do tomorrow. :)

Haha yes i will i will try tomorrow! But the problem is that it is my buff African gander that has the droopy wing and my brown female is getting it too! I think it is the suprising warm weather we have (which we don't get in September ) But i am going to use Andreas advice but i will get a Avatar of him!

I have sold babies from 3 days old up to few months. Ducks are super easy to sell for $5 each. The local rescue group I work with may already have someone who wants all 8 (we're keeping two). This was really quite the surprise hatch, especially with the so-called low fertility rates with hinnies. With everything going on and the timing, it is best for us to place them asap and then enjoy watching Bolshy raise just a couple of babies.

Livin i lovewhen the babies walk with the parents! The lavender will be more white then lavender but we will see:)
He´s different to his brother, he´s a brighter yellow, so yes, we´ll see how her turns out.

I love watching the ducks with their ducklings. I usually leave them with only 2 eggs, as it´s not so easy to sell them, but I can take them to the local feedstore and they sell them really fast., but I only take them when they´re big enough to not need heat any more... But my gozzies stay with me until they´re quite big.

Me too. It is so sweet to watch ducks and geese raise their babies.

All this duck talk. so I will ask an opinion. Most of you guys know that I have rescued rehabbed and released 2 injured (muscovy) drakes this summer. Well, a mom (muscovy) left her 4 ducklings. These ducks live in the same urban area with a few small retention ponds and we see them everyday. She got hit by a car? got spooked and flew away? chased away? she disappeared and left her 4 three week old babies behind. I am not one for "letting nature run it's course". What are the chances of three week old ducklings surviving in nature without their mom? She started with more than 10 and they got eaten. All the babies get eaten in that area because there are so many predators. They have lasted a full week without mom. We keep feeding them and do do the residents of the apartment complex where they are living (yes they are on private property). I am torn between not wanting to make a scene and get arrested for molesting the wildlife and rescuing them. I have fought with my son all week because he wanted us to catch them the first day.
I just dont know what is the right thing to do.. What do you guys think? I will post this on the link thread too.

They´re in a cardboard box with a desk lamp over, a thermometer with the bulb in the shade, damp kitchen paper, and cling-film over the top, which helps to keep the humidity level in, and also I can regulate the temperature. I´ve hatched out goslings and chicks this way before, but I only do it in the last days of development.
I found another late-developing egg in a nest, so that´s been put under another goose, and is more developed than the other two she´s presently sitting on, so I´ll have to keep an eye on that
Wow, I never thought of bringing my egg in the house where I could see it without a incubator. Thanks so much for telling me about your way of doing things. I had the one egg that didnt end up living after mom hatched it early. It stressed me out so much that i am not sure if i will ever attempt raise eggs again. unless they are geese eggs =)
