Goslings still not eating... please help.

Hows your other gosling doing?

I agree it sounds like failure to thrive. You don't by chance have any one selling ducklings around like TSC right now or even chicks? Sometimes by placing a gosling, duckling etc. in with other birds can get it to catch on to eating the food since they usually will be devouring it. They learn by each other or (by their mothers) by watching and repeating.

I hope MM will refund you. And I am crossing my fingers they other little one will pull through.

If its not failure to thrive then they got sick from something..

Sadly I don't! I definitely thought of that, plus I don't want him to grow up alone. I am going to keep looking but for now, there is no one near me (I live in the sticks, on an island) with young baby birds.

I even showed him to my adult goose today, hoping she might take an interest, but she totally ignored him.

I am unsure if MM will refund me since Wasabi died six days after she arrived. I think their guarantee only is for the first 48 hours. But I mean, these were Sebastopols... they weren't cheap. $171 for the pair (including all the small order fees and such)

Do you think they could've gotten sick from something? I have a lot of animals around here (though all are healthy). Is there any illness that causes anorexia like this? They have refused to eat and been unsteady on their feet from the moment they arrived, from the moment I opened the shipping box.

As of right now Sashimi is the picture of health other than the fact that he *has not grown* (and we all know that normally in a week goslings have visibly grown). But he is active, oh so very active. I have been sitting with him all day, begging him to eat.

you can make a gruel put it in a syringe minus the needle and very gnetly and a tiny dab at a time put it right inside his mouth. also the Nutri Drench can be done this way. Sorry to hear about Wasabi

I'm so sorry. :( This is heartbreaking. You seem to have been dealing with this since day 1. I am so saddened that MM will not do something. That is a LOT of money to have paid! :( I'm sorry for your loss. I hope this little gander does ok! Can you check your closest craigslist and go back up to a week and see if anyone is selling ducklings or even chicks at this point? Otherwise you might have to take him wherever you go- he could do very poorly if left alone. <3 I hope the little guy does better! Can you offer him fresh grass clippings or even snipped wheat grass? I used to buy wheat grass from the grocery store- still in the planter tub and sat it in the brooder. my goslings enjoy the grass and the wheat grass we offered.

Feel for you on this. We have 4 Embdens hatched out of six eggs, sincle last Thursday, two had to be assisted, one of which is really struggling. Very sleepy and compared to the other three going backwards fast, will take water but barely eating. Have noted the other comments and will take on board. A cracking site and thanks for sharing all of your advice.

I am soooo sorry you lost one of your sebbie babies!
You have tired everything to save the two goslings. Sounds like to me that the goslings were not as strong as normal. They have never really tried to eat well.
My babies are eating like crazy the very next day after hatching. Jumping into the water bowl. Not that I want them in the water bowl but that is the first thing we do play water goosies...
It breaks my heart that you have went through this..... Did you call MM right away to aks them about the goslings? If so they know what is going on. I believe now that I remember you saying you called and they told you what to do. I would hold them for a replacement. Because they goslings have not thrived since you recieved them....
If they do not replace the gosling do not ever go back to them......

Thank you everyone. I am still crying. Yesterday was a really REALLY hard day. You get so attached to these little babies. I just love geese and I had such high hopes for these little ones.

I will say this: MM's customer service is unrivaled. I waited until 5:00ish to call yesterday to try to get myself under control (I really was a blubbering mess) but for some reason, on the phone, I lost it again. The woman was practically crying along with me. She was very kind and sympathetic. They refunded every penny of my order. It was a small comfort (I would rather have Wasabi back) but I thought it was very, well, good of them.

The woman said that in 14 years of working there she had NEVER heard of goslings not eating like these ones. It really is a mystery to all of us.

Since Wasabi died, the little gander, Sashimi, is much more bonded to us... which is a blessing and a curse. A blessing because it probably saved his life (all of a sudden he looked to us for advice, and when we "pecked" our fingers in the starter yesterday--for the 500th time--he actually imitated us and *ate some!*) but a curse because I wasn't really looking to raise another single gosling again. I remember how needy Sushi was last year, and Sashimi is just as bad. I feel so bad, he must be so lonely at night. I am going to continue looking for a gosling or a duckling for him but for now, we are just doing the best we can... however I am just so happy that he is picking at his food! I hope he makes it!

I am glad that your little gander is eating. Last year when I got my pair of geese the gander (Boris) was about half the size of the goose(Natasha). The geese were brooded with pekin ducks that we bought at the same time. At a week of age the pekins were bigger than he was. He was rather inactive and tired. After his first week he really started to eat and then grow. By the time the geese were 3 or 4 months old he was much bigger than his mate. Unfortunately Natasha became egg bound this spring and did not make it. Now I am brooding 2 little girls for the lonely Boris.

I hope that you can find your little guy some company. I also hope that you enjoy the short time that they are so little and cute. I am very sorry for your loss. Also glad that McMurray was so kind in their responses.
