Once again, my silkie has been broody all winter. The poor girl never gives up. I've been waiting for the local feed store to get in some Easter Eggers because I've been wanting more and they had a bunch today. I know I should have waited till night time to put them under mama silkie but I really had a lot to do and didn't want to go through making their brooder and all up. She was a bit agitated at first, but eventually took them under her. I just went out and checked on them and they are all snuggled under mama and she growled at me when I pet her.

Pics coming tomorrow!

Foster Mama Cloudy has taken those babies in as her own and is doing a great job. I took my chances and left her and the chicks with the rest of the flock. The rest of the chickens act scared to death of the babies and anytime one of them goes near the adults, they take off running. It's hilarious. The past two mornings, the chicks have jumped (or fallen) out of the nesting box but even then, Cloudy has taken care of them. DH went out to check on them this morning while I was at work and he said that 2 babies were on the floor while the others were still up in the nesting box. Cloudy was on the floor taking care of the ones that had fallen out. DH put them all back in the box and they have been there all day. I was worried about the chicks because we got down into the low 30's last night and they were out from under Cloudy at 6am this morning. They're just fine though. I'm beginning to think that all the extra precautions I used to take (heat lamps, separating them from the rest of the flock, etc) were a waste of time!
