Here's a group I know personally. (I built their website and maintain it for them.) They raise A LOT of money to help fallen soldiers/families with college tuition for children and child care for military wives to return to school. Great bunch of retired guys from Army, Navy and Marines:

Apryl and others - Important for military families in the 82nd Airborne Division, 18th Airborne Corps, Ft. Bragg Warrior Transition Battalion, and U.S. Army Special Operations.

The Patriot Foundation has $80,000 available for wounded soldiers and their wives, or widowed wives with children of deceased soldiers, for cost of child care expenses while attending college education classes. The program supports those in the military groups mentioned above. Spread the word - this money needs spent or it will be returned to the corporate donor (WalMart) this year. Based on the terms of the donation and the mission of The Patriot Foundation and Widow, Wounded Soldier Assistance Program, the money can't be passed on or spent for other purposes.

There are surely, surely people out there who need these funds. If you know of someone, help pass the word.

I just posted a news article from the Fayetteville Observer on The Patriot Foundation website today regarding this. It can be read here:
