WE didn't get ours directly from Mt healthy, we got them from feed stores that ordered all pullets from Mt Healthy...

Out of 3 Silver Laced Wyandotte Chicks and 3 Gold Laced Wyandotte Chicks, all sold as pullets, 2 of the Gold Laced and 2 of the Silver Laced were roos.

Out of 6 Ameraucana mutt (EE) "pullets", 1 was a roo.

That's 5 wrongly sexed chicks out of 12...that's 41.6% of them wrongly sexed.

I'm just wondering if any of you guys had similar results with this hatchery, if I just got very unlucky, or what...

Out of like 30 birds we bought since March from feed stores that bought from Ideal, only one of them sexed as a pullet turned out to be a male (male welsummer).

And 3 out of 3 birds we bought from a person on craiglist that bought from McMurray hatchery, all correctly sexed as females.

Anybody else?

I got mine from Estes by way of Orscheln's. My RIR was in the pullet cage and she is a pullet. The roo was in the straight run cage, so I took my chances. Really pretty birds; I will definitely buy from Estes again.

We ordered pullets from MM and got straight runs, dead on 50% split. I've since learned how to vent sex for buying in person.

If they have a guarentee you should report it. Most hatcheries say that if 10% or more are mis-sexed they will either send you more, exchange them, return your money, and some even give you a full refund, depending on how bad the mix up was.
The closest I have ever receive was out of 17 "pullets" from Ideal. I received 2 males. It was okay though, they went for meat.

I'll second that. We've bought pullets directly from Mt. Healthy (drive up to get them in fact) and almost always gotten 100% pullets. But what they send to feed stores may be another matter.

Did the store order them for you, or did you buy out of the tanks on the floor at the store itself?

I ordered 9 BO pullets and 1 BO rooster from Mt. Healthy, and ended up with 2 roos. I live locally to their facilities and bought direct from them. That ends up about 90% accurate, so I guess I can't complain. My only complaint is the chickens, while being 24 weeks old, aren't the size I expected. The roos go about 6 pound and the hens 4 or so. The hens started laying a month ago and the eggs really haven't gotten any bigger, they currently lay about a 1.5 - 1.75 ounce egg. I also average a 50 - 65% lay rate daily, so I'm happy with that.
