Hi, y'all! I've been an armchair enthusiast for years, but I plan on getting my first chickens in a few weeks. :)

I welcome any recommendations for raising egg-layers in the central Texas heat!

My first recommendation would be to get a water system established prior to getting your chicks. We went from the hanging waterer's to the poultry watering nipples and LOVE them. No more poop in the water, no more spills, no more wasted water (only a few drips here and there). Hope this helps! Best of luck to you.

You first will want to do some reading in our learning center. Lots of good articles on keeping poultry...

Then you might benefit by chatting with your chicken neighbors in your state thread as to what breeds do well and how to deal with your hot summers...

You can also take a look at these 2 breeds pages. Some quick info in the different attributes and their weather hardiness...

Enjoy this new adventure you are on and welcome to our flock!
