Hey ya'll, just got a new coop. Looked pretty sweet www.precisionpet.com/detail.aspx?ID=202. Any body know anything about them? They seem to be decently constructed, figured a coat of polyurethane or Helmsman to protect from the elements. Any ideas would be appreciated. Have looked after fowl for years, but as a good ole countryboy should listen to his friends and neighbors for advice. Best of luck, and thanks for any wisdom.

:welcome
Nice coop! I'm pretty sure those coops are pretty well constructed but yes I think that's a good idea to put those on the coop as they will help it in the weather. :)

Thanks for the feedback. Looking for any info i can get about raising chickens in the backyard. Easy in the country, less so in Suburbia.

Nice looking coop. I would do what you have mentioned for sure. Plus, you may want to pound a few more nails into it. They just don't build them like we do..well...my DH! :D

Here is a site that has many different places that you can post your photo for the real coop builders to take a look at it.

The pre-made coops are generally not as roomy as they say. A chicken should have 4-5 sq feet per BIRD, excluding nest boxes and roosts, and 10 sq.feet per bird in the outdoor run. Chickens that are crowded start feather picking and bullying and at extreme levels even cannibalism.

Welcome to BYC!

Nice looking coop. Will you be putting something around the bottom to secure it from digging predators?

What kind of chickens do you have? Hope you're enjoying them.

It's nice to have you here!

you will be quickly disappointed with that coop. It's very poor quality construction and materials on top of being too small. Return it.

Got the coop together today. Construction seems decently sound, swapped out the screws that came with it for Deckmasters that were 1/4'' longer than what came with the kit. Pretty solid after. Can't wait to get my Buffs to fill it!
