Got another squatter!

You will definitely KNOW squatting when you see it.

It is really cute. Your chickie will drop her rear, put her wings out and just sit there, VERY still. As someone else said, it helps a LOT when you want to pick one up.

Yes, I understand its a maturity thing. I am just happy to see them doing it because now I know they are technically old enough to lay eggs. I know it doenst mean they will lay today... they may not lay for another few months! It's just a visual way for me to know they are mature hens I guess. Thats all.

LOL it IS cute. I can pet all my girls easily now. Well except for the one that doesnt squat yet, shes still a toot. My chickens are all friendlier now.... they all want to be pet. They follow me around etc. They didnt want this much attention before they started squatting. Is this common? My hubby even noticed they all want attention, and he doesnt know anything about chickens.

Yes, I noticed with my chickens and my mother's chickens that they get much sweeter at this point.

I am really awful about it!!! I love it so much I sit there and pet them and then when I let go I tell them to "shake it off". It is too adorable not to take advantage of. LOL

LOL I have one doing it now, except she runs on the spot at the same time, it's hilarious. She's also a bit protective of the nest boxes, and keeps telling the others to shoo, she also spends a lot of time indoors right now, where the others go outside.

well now I'm going to be waiting to see this when it starts... I'm not noticed my Austrolorp doing this & she is actually laying now & she's been pretty steady too. My Buff Orpingtons are SO sweet & they all coming running & while they don't necessarily want to be picked up they do like a lot of attention. Actually I guess they do like to be pet but at the start they'll play a little "hard to get" time of a game but in reality they love it when actually picked up. Except of course for Mr. Standoffish the Roo he's always been well a bit *standoffish* even as a young chick. Anyway it'll be cute to see them all wanting this because they're such sweeties it's like they bat their eye lashes at you as it is. Hubby & all 3 of my macho adult sons have commented when they've found themselves out in the yard for a period of time they'll finally really see the chickens and they'll come back in saying things like "you know they really are kind of cute & funny to watch." I tell them all the time but you know I think they think I just make up these commical stories....
