Question is, didn't i read 1st egg is really not too good quality or something to that effect? smaller than normal etc. Any info on this would be helpful....Thanks, Brian

Our first egg was small but my husband ate it and said it was good.

congrats on the first egg!! Sometimes first eggs/pullet eggs are smaller, sometimes you have soft shelled eggs, double yolkers or other odd eggs until the 'kinks' in the young pukllets system are worked out. Laying can be irregular in the beginning, you may not have another egg tomorrow or the day after. Unless the eggs are cracked or damaged and possibly contaminated with yucky things

or your chickens are on medications/medicated feed there is no reason the first egg(s) can't be eaten. I did and they were wonderful. Just make sure that you have layer food and/or free choice crushed oystershell available. Making eggs takes more calcium and grower feed does not provide enough. Hope you will enjoy many eggs from your new chickens

Congrats on the first egg.

The first egg tastes like the second egg which tastes like the third egg . . . .
The eggs do get larger as the birds get older

congrats on your first egg! It's like finding a hidden treasure. I waited until I had 4 eggs to make breakfast, and they were delicious. I think they are a little richer in taste than subsequent eggs and the yolks were HUGE compared to the whites. bon appetit'!
