Hey...how about taking some pics of the roosters you have observed and seem to like the best and start a thread called "Judge my Roosters" so that you can get some input from many people who may be able to pick you out the sturdiest of the bunch. Good side pics and pics from above them will help make the choice and number them out so that folks can vote on the ones they like for conformation, size, feathering, etc. Place that thread in the breed forum and you will have some fun with it all!
GOOD idea Bee, will do thanx!!! :)

lol .......I thought I'd already posted a reply to this but am not seeing it now. GOOD idea Bee! LOVE this idea and now I can feel much more confident about getting rid of the roosters I sell. Thank you!

I got a pic of some of them today and then thought, ugh I'm not going to know one from the other one. lol They all look a like to me EXCEPT Goliath. When he runs toward me when I have their bucket of food it reminds me of Goliath in the Bible. So I just had to name him that. You can hear him running. It's like he is all muscle. lol

Well, I've learned a lot from Al. My first rooster, I had to cull last year because he was attacking me every day. He was beautiful and I hated to do it, but I was scared to walk out to collect the eggs. I now have a 19-week-old New Hampshire, Randy Roo. Everything was going along great until yesterday. He went for me and I took Al's advice and kicked him and chased him around and threw corn cobs and small sticks at him. Pretty soon HE was running for his life. Today he changed his tune. He looks at me, but then turns and walks the other way. I RULE!!!! We'll see what happens next. He loves his hens and lets them have first dibs on any scraps and makes the most beautiful noise when he locates something tasty.

Don't wait until they do....train them now!

Just start moving the bird with a training tool and doing surprise "attacks" of touching him with the stick...hard enough that he jumps a little and moves out of the way or runs completely away. If you have kids, let them do some of it too....he needs to learn that they can control him and are to be feared for this. It's not mean to do this...this is what a superior rooster would be doing to him right now...teaching him the pecking order of roosters.

Will do Bee. I see the point now and did think, I don't want them afraid of me. But now I see it's pecking order and I SURE NEED to be the head and not the feet. lol Man one day I will get all this stuff. lol this is sooooo new to me!

My ducks wasn't like this. lol

We have 2 big buff orp roosters now that have just started crowing and mating the hens and I feel as though they might try to attack us at some point but so far they just stare and flap at us. ... difference being I no longer have a big rooster to protect me. ..

Yeah, if I hadn't been reading BYC forum and especially this thread, I would be another terrorized human and fearful for my grandchildren. Once I learned the concept of pecking order involving roosters, I totally "get it." My five-year-old granddaughter chased RandyRoo around the yard with a big stick and just lightly tapped him on the behind as she chased him around. He was running from her. He never once stood his ground and it gave her confidence to know what to do if he ever did go for her. RandyRoo is doing great and we've had a good week of him just paying attention to his girls and not feeling threatened by us in Upper Management. He is crowing a lot more, but I guess he needs to pretend he is all that. Thanks BYC forum.
