Got Flogged by A rooster tonight

The younger of my two BLRW cockerels started to get a little too over-confident with me, so I gently grabbed him at the base of his neck with my grabber-reacher tool and pushed... back...very... slowly; he's ceased rushing the door when I'm feeding.

The other thing which works nicely for chicken control is those folding garden rakes; they're not too heavy, and when opened all the way you don't have to be very accurate to block bad chicken behavior.

Roosters naturally don't like you touching there girls and I like that, it shows me he is doing his job, but when any of my roosters come on me too fast, i just raise my cane and the fear of Moses is upon them. I never let anyone mount while i am in the chicken yard. Seems to be working all these years, and the head boy always acts like he would love to just flog the stuffing's out of me, but he is too scared of my cane, Don't get me wrong ... i have never hit a chicken with my cane, i have given the boys a little punch in the chest with it when they lose the fear of Moses. Most of the time they ignore me and i ignore them and there is peace in the valley, and i have sent many a rooster to .. as you all say on here .. Freezer Camp. As for the hens how can you ignore them they just stay around your feet and beg, just love the little things.

Of course there is nothing wrong with you entering to do your chores, he see's you.......... you see him and he get's after his best girl in a show of........ yeah i got that !!!, then you slide on over and with a slight of foot knock him off balance. This shows him you are the main man. it's a little give and take with you allways on top of the deal. it's doesn't have to be anything dramatic but if you are consistant your chanc are lessened he will flare on you.

It's the last few post that really make you realize how it should be instead of some mamby pamby world of what you think you read and what it really is................ Just sayin of course .... kinda of if the shoe fit's sorta thing. Those of us who practice real animal husbandry because we know.

Do you mean those people who have had multiple flocks with multiple roos over multiple years? Now, why in the world would WE know anything about chickens?

I'm here to tell you that anyone who can carry a chicken around while they do choring just doesn't have any real chores!
