Got Flogged by A rooster tonight

I am hoping by Saturday I can have a majority of my teens out of here for good. I know one of these days one is going to get the idea in his head that he is bigger than me. Fat chance there, guys! I see the way they get with each other and I see that look in their eyes toward me. Just wondering who is going to be stupid enough to try it first. I have more ill tempered crosses than pures though. I have one who has to go roost on another pen top instead of going in his every night. I think he is starting to understand the pecking order whenever he gives anyone else crap, I spray him or give him a kick in the pants. He is now watching to see if I am heading his way, although this morning I wondered when I walked at him just for GP, if he was going to be stupid. Oh wait, he is a chicken, of course he is stupid.

I've been stalking my little Roo each time I enter the pen as suggested I do. I know that look you're talking about....the quizative look....Do I dare or don't. My Roo is 24wks. and doesn't budge when he's on the roost but I know he's watching me & I always have an eye on him. I always turn to him when leaving the coop and ask him "What are you looking at? Don't even get one silly idea in that little head of yours!!" Here's a pic of the little devil.....You can see the devil in his eyes!!

I couldn't help myself, with all this chatter about roos on this thread, I went out today to do chores and grabbed up my DC who has been my only offender. He didn't know what to do, he was scared near to death. He wailed and screeched, but I tucked him under my arm and went out about my business, making sure the whole flock got to see, big and small. He must have felt like quite a loser by the time I let him go. He wouldn't come within 15-feet of me the rest of the day.

I must say though, toting that muscle bound knucklehead was not easy task on my part much less trying to do chores one-handed. Almost started to wonder who was being worked over more.

Well, my young roo who hadn't given us any problems whatsoever was stupid and decided to jump on my 3 year old daughter when she walked past him--about 10 feet away--Sun night. We ate him for dinner last night. No 2nd chances when my kids are involved.

He is doing great and hasn't made another move since, except to move in the opposite direction of where I am at. That section of The coop is all calmed down now when I enter and life is good, he and I were non the worst for wear. I did pick up 3 more Roosters as breeder candidates the other day, they are only a year old and won't start to feel their oat's for another 6 mo or so, they seem fine and I don't anticipate any problems but I am ever vigilant.

wowza! My 5 month old Brown Leghorn rooster attacked me tonight! This has NEVER happened. He has always been pretty good but skittish around me. I was filling the feeders and then the waterers and while I was in the coop, he came charging in at me. If I didn't have the water pitcher in my hand, I wouldn't have anything to fight him off with. He charged me at least 8 times and I used the pitcher to push him back and right back he came. I had to kick him and shut myself in the coop. He came through the side door at me. I had to back out and pick up a board to block his attacks. What the hey!?! I gave him about half an hour and went back in with gloves on and a stick thinking I am going to kill him if he attacks me again. Now I'm wondering, should I go ahead and kill him before he strikes again or give him another chance? I hate to kill him. Never killed any of my chickens before but golly! But I don't feel I can turn my back on him at all. He stayed away from me the last two times I've been in there tonight so not sure what to do. Will wait and see I guess. That behavior was out of the blue sky so I guess if he does it again, it will be a surprise too. But I don't think I'll let him get away with it the next time. I'm not sure if I am ready to go up and challenge him and provoke an attack.
