Good luck with the dilema, but if you get rid of the roo that you got for the kids, who ARE handling them and don't want to get rid of them, then I think somebody needs to be fair about this. I don't want your kids to get hurt,and 6 is pretty young, but 8 year olds can manage alot more.

No he has not attached us- he is 20 weeks and I just think building up the "balls" to do it..... He will not jump at my older daughter. He is crazy scared of her- she points at him and gives him the evil eye and screams NO! Then he walks off in fear....

My 6 year old is small- and dainty and like me... a bit nervous around them- but she will not go around them without her sister or one of us.​

Well, Jack the 6 month Brown Leghorn rooster is still attacking/charging me. I've grabbed him (after he ran around squaking like a stuck pig and hid in the corner of the coop while his gals covered him) and held him for several minutes (have done this several times) and he still comes at me. Have grabbed him as he is doing this and put him in a cage for 'time out'. He did not like that at all. But he is still coming at me. Have booted him a few times too (the first time he attacked me I was so shocked all I could do is kick him back, he came at me the first time about 8 times). I talk sternly to him. I have had a stick in my hand. I am not sure what else I can do. I don't like going into the chicken yard/coop so on guard that he is going to come and attack me again. I hate to make my gals widows but geez. I gave away the wrong rooster I guess! Any other suggestions? I've never killed anything with my bare hands before but I guess there is always a first. Just not wanting to do this. He is pretty. I want a rooster in with the gals. My other rooster, Red, in the other yard, is such a good rooster, not sure whassup with this little stinker!

Ah, a person of few words, right to the point!

I will probably end up killing him but not sure I could eat him. Never plucked/butchered anything either. Guess this whole experience could be good for me so maybe later I could butcher my own for meat. I would like to do that, just never done that before and no experience. I need to see someone (have neighbors) do this to learn first. If I end up killing Jack (which I think I will), I will give him a proper burial. Thanks for the laugh and advice and encouragement!

It doesn't sound as you are being consistent with your corrections and just flitting from one method to another but not being persistent in just one long enough to see if it pans out. Desparation will do that to you, I guess.

It's sort of like those parents who spank their kids only after they've let them get by with murder all day and then, when they spank them, it is only hard enough to make the kid mad and relieve some of the frustration of the parent. Never effective.

I'd love to be like Cesar Milan or the Super Nanny gal and come to people's places and "tame" their roos...would be great fun!

Try reading back the thread until you come to the one where you actually use the stick and the methods that go along with it and try it for the prescribed period of time...then get back to us.

Had to do the same with our stubborn roo this weekend. No matter what I did he kept coming at me. There are very helpful videos on YouTube and tutorials in the sticky in the meat bird section. My husband hunts deer, but this was our first bird. We needed assistance. I would suggest using a cone, get it before you attemp to process this bird by yourself, it makes it easier. Good luck!

That sort of rooster, well picking him up aside, he'll only understand one thing: a little bit of rooster spoken back to him. If you stick with this hobby and keep at it in the coming years, sooner or later you will own a rooster thats gonna make you bleed when you turn your back, a rooster in need of a little whup a$_ from time to time, to make him understand who is who. Oh yeah you will!
Last BR I had, he used to attack if I bent over at the waist for any reason, watering, feeding, getting eggs; he'd hit me in the head and face. Got my head bleeding twice, once in my face, and I culled him on the spot. A full grown rooster can put some hurtin' on you, if you are unaware of their potential.

Looks like we embarrassed our poor attitude rooster.... If he jumps at us- we try to pick him up- he hates it and our second in line roo has started being more dominate (hanging out with the hens more) and more friendly and curious to us. If we keep embarrassing Crazy Bird (yeah that is his name) it looks like he may miss the thanksgiving dinner plate!
