Got my first complaint about fresh eggs

Ooo...maybe that means you're gonna have a step brother....your step-father is pregnant!

ahhh...poooh! He doesn't know a good thing when he has it...

Back in the '50's my Mom would buy eggs from a farmer that was located only about a mile from our home... those days are gone.

My dad found out they were fertile and refused to eat any more.

I LOVE my chickens and their eggs. They are not fertile because I don't have a rooster about but I'm so grateful for the girls giving me fresh, lovely eggs!

More for you! heh heh heh

I agree, people forget what "real" tastes like. Like I said, more eggs for me! I absolutely LOVE the eggs I get at 6:30 am when I roll out of bed and need some breakfast. Can't get better than that. I can't even imagine eating store bought eggs...even when mine weren't laying yet I always got my eggs from local farmers.

I agree with all of you- the fresh eggs have more flavor and aroma.

My brother gets queasy just thinking about eating them, so my sister-in-law has to buy him store eggs. Most of it is in the idea that the eggs actually come out of a real animal.

I have friends that get the willies when I offer them home-grown organic vegetables too. The blandness and pesticide-coating of store bought veggies eliminates their fears of pollution: bugs, dirt, bird droppings, etc.

I understand it: I still can't butcher and eat my own meat. I need it to be processed by someone else and delivered in neat little packages that have no resemblance to an animal.

Irrational, I know, but there it is.

oddly enough .. I have never seen my chooks eat a mouse, now having said that I did have some barred rock roos at one time that would eat frogs and mice. But they took a trip to the freezer last year

. Yuck you knew when they got one too, there would blood slung on the walls

. Since they have been gone, no signs of mice attacks since then, I figured all the other chooks seen the brutal attack take place and now they have a complex

But glad they do not eat them. Oh but worms and grasshopers WATCH OUT !! It's on they will chase them down and devoure them

And I love fresh eggs, and of course they are fertile. I do agree with others wipe off the poop before selling. Poo covered eggs don't seem right. I want some black copper marans sooo bad. I love those super dark eggs. So pretty.

My husband was excited about the thought of fresh eggs until our hen actually laid one. I was so excited, our children were so excited...but my husband was afraid to eat it. I was shocked!! I would think he would be much more afraid of an egg that comes from a factory farm! He said he couldn't help it...it was just watching the hen scratch around in the dirt and gulping down worms that grossed him out. I still can't believe it. I hope he gets over it!!

They do smell different sometimes, I noticed that yesterday when I came in the house from outside, and eggs were cooking. But, who cares. They are the most wonderful things for baking.

"Some people--especially those raised on a lifetime of commercial eggs-- think this yolky decadence is too rich too eat"!!!

This quote comes from Barbara Kilarski's book Keep Chickens!

Ridiculous huh? I told a friend of mine that I sell my eggs and she asked if homegrown eggs were "really edible".
