I got my first egg 3 days ago too! I was so excited!

Are the eggs usually fertile right away? My couple is just 6 weeks today.

Hey Al,

When i first bought my quails (4 females and 2 males) i got them just before autumn and i didnt get one egg from them until mid spring. Almost 10 months as well. I think the issue is is that when the period of natural light reduces during winter the birds go off laying unless you give them supplementary lighting. As i had bought my birds going into winter they didnt lay untill the days became longer. I suggest you wait a bit longer and you will see eggs soon enough.

this is exactly waht i was getting at for Al. But if his birds have been outside since spring they should have been laying for weeks now already. He could very well have all roos or something like that. My quails born in late summer of last year didnt lay until the end of march beg of april

it does indeed have to do with lighting. They need 14 hours of light daily to lay.
