I got my first egg of the year. I wonder why my hen picked the coldest day of the year to lay it? It cracked when it thawed. But the weird thing is only my gobbler was in the pen with the egg. The hen must have fit in the tiny hole to the barn attick and dropped in the other side.

or he is NOT a Gobbler

I got home last night and all four of my hens had laid and all the eggs were frozen. So this mornign they all became cannibals. I scrambled them and fed them back to the group.

they really seemed to like them. I mixed in egg shell and some scratch

When I am feeding the eggs back, I usually hard boil them, then crush them up shell and all. Just crack the egg and tear it up into smaller pieces.

I am new to turkeys (have Narragansetts). Turkeys share a coop with my chickens. I am excited that I have found 3 turkey eggs so far. Have 4 hens and a Tom. They are laying near my chicken hens. So far I have brought the eggs inside and they are in a cooler back bedroom. It's cold here in the coop and somedays I've had frozen eggs. I have one chicken hen that looks like she wants to set and the Turkey who is laying lays an egg right beside her. Nest boxes are big enough for a Turkey or a chicken. If I leave eggs in the coop before they are set on they will run a chance of freezing. Should I be leaving them under the chicken hen that wants to sit or gather up a bunch like I am doing hoping the turkey hen will be interested finding the nest full one day? I could alternatively place the gathered eggs under the chicken hen ? How many eggs under a hen or a turkey hen? What's the safer method for hatching the eggs? This is a little earlier than I expected eggs I thought they'd wait til spring.
