I'm just so excited about it I'm making a whole new thread just to exclaim to the quail world that, at 6 weeks and 2 days old, one of my hens laid her first egg! It's my first ever quail egg too from my first time keeping quails. I'm so proud of her! :D :D

They are 8.5 weeks old now and are all laying well. However, today I found this midget sized egg with very thick egg-white-like-jelly stuff and a very underdeveloped yolk, if you could even call it yolk. Is it what they call a "fart" egg? What is up with that? At first I thought my kid threw a pebble into the rabbit hutch.

Thanks for the congrats all :) It really is exciting collecting these eggs, especially when some of them are a bit "special" lol

My guess is that was a first egg of another hen, but you would know that better than I, but I get some like that as firsts sometimes.

My husband decided to throw the trash out at 2am last night so the lights were on and the quails woke up. I thought, what the hay, I'll give them a midnight snack. It must've messed with their circadian rhythm/ egg laying cycle because this morning I found two no shelled eggs from hens that have always laid in the late afternoon.
