I got a guinea from one of my friends today,he had his chickens and guineas free ranging since he's moving and didn't really care if they got ate or not so he said I could have the guinea and last night something tried to get it cause it has some scratches on it's back and a little open flesh but nothing serious. I've always wanted to raise guineas and I have chickens and ducks as well so now I'm just gonna buy a guinea hen for him whenever I come across one. He's in a 20x20 pen that's 6 feet high and covered with a 4x4 coop. It's beside the chickens pen so he's right beside some birds till I get him a lady friend, and you ain't kidding when you say there loud he's been ''buck wheating'' and making all kinds of racket which is excepted since he's in a new area and isn't real tame. Any advice or tips would be appreciated!

The best way I know of to tell guinea genders apart is that males only make one-syllable calls, while females also use two-syllable calls.

Correction: the best way is that only females lay eggs :)

Handsome guinea! In the pictures his wing carriage looks more male to me, but I would still be inclined to put more faith in his voice.
